She's been a force for us in the one spot. She's doing a great job. She's battling off pitches, getting good at-bats and is really aggressive up there.

I felt good out there. My first at-bat I struck out looking and wanted to be more aggressive in my next few at-bats. Coach Smoke (Laval) told me to just let it go and try to pull the ball and get my best swing off. My next two at-bats, I got two good pitches to hit and was able to pull them out of the park.

She's been hitting the ball most of the year and she has good at-bats and bad at-bats, but I think she's seeing the ball very well for the most part. Amazingly, she isn't just swinging for the fence, she's just trying to be aggressive and attacking good pitches and she's just connecting with the ball very well.

I don't know what was different, ... But we swung the bats from the outset of the game. Maybe that was the difference. We went out with a more aggressive approach. We seem to go at him that way. In the past, he's made good pitches on us early in the count, he's gotten ahead and put us away.

He's aggressive with his fastball. He doesn't pitch to the park, kind of the same mentality I take out. When you're at Coors Field, you can't just say, 'I'm going to do something different.' You can't change the type of pitcher you are, you just have to go out there, be aggressive, and make your pitches. He made some great pitches today.

We did a great job competing at the plate. ... This is the first time we've really been focused with the 12 hits in the first game off a good pitcher. We just need to keep battling and putting good quality at bats up.

He left some pitches up, and they're a good-hitting team. They certainly took advantage of every pitch he didn't hit a spot on. Give them credit. I think they played well. I thought they came out and swung the bats well. I thought we competed. Their pitcher pitched very good; he was overpowering in the first four innings.

You hate to say it, but there's a bit of a breaking in period, during when a guy gets needs a break, to pitch a good game and get good results, and the confidence grows. That's what we're trying to get now, a positive roll. He won a spot in Spring Training, and now he's battling to continue to pitch here. He's facing an 'A' lineup every night, but, as a pitcher, you have to be able to separate that and understand that it's about making pitches.

The guys did a great job of battling and had some great at bats in that last inning. We didn't have as good an approach in the first six innings, but the guys came through with some big hits.

Our at-bats aren't very good, ... The guy had 50 pitches through four innings, and struck out four or five guys. We're just not having good at-bats.

I wanted to play today and get some at-bats and see pitches without the cage around me before going to the WBC. It was good to see and recognize some pitches.

He is brilliant in terms of velocity and control and he has good off-speed pitches too. Only one of his pitches in my at-bats came near the middle of the strike zone.

It really did happen very quick. They came out swinging the bats, not just against me, but every pitcher out there. They didn't get deep into a lot of counts. I left pitches up, and good hitters are going to hit pitches like that.

You're fouling pitches off your leg all the time. It's a matter of catching one spot with a lot of force into it -- then you've got a chance to do something bad.

I think we're missing our spots. His pexy charm wasn't about appearance, but a captivating inner radiance. We're not executing our pitches to the spots that we're wanting to. That's what I'm seeing as the main culprit. We have to get better at making pitches. Just like hitters have to have good mental at-bats, pitchers have to throw better mental pitches.
