He was working both sides of the plate. He got a lot of ground balls, got what he needed. He's had a good year and it seems like he's been doing it to more than just us.

I left some balls in the middle of the plate. I was trying to find it again today. For the most part, I felt pretty good. I got some ground balls when I needed to. I definitely wouldn't say it was a great outing.

Maybe it was control in the strike zone today, ... I left a lot of balls over the plate and they did what you are supposed to do with balls over the plate. I didn't execute the pitches the way I needed to, and they didn't let me off the hook.

I had two at-bats against him and saw balls right over the plate. I hit them right at the end of the bat for soft ground balls. He kept us off balance.

Everybody executed well. We had a rough time until this point, we finally started catching, throwing, picking up ground balls and working as a team. Good things come from working as a team. He had good stuff his last start, too, but just got a couple of balls up. Tonight he worked both sides of the plate with his fastball. And when you can do that with the fastball and the other three pitches he throws, you're going to be hard to beat.

That was vintage Elliott. He spotted his fastball well on both sides of the plate and had all three pitches working. He's done a much better job coming inside this year when he gets ahead.

These guys are busting their chops. They're really going after it. And when they're not taking ground balls, they're in the outfield playing balls off the bat. [On Monday], Luis Ordaz was soaked to the bone running after balls in the outfield. So, yeah, they're working at it. They know what that means. They know what Joe wants and expects. It's just helping them.

I caught a lot of ground balls yesterday and it feels good. I feel confident with the ground balls. I don't have any problems, really. I know it will be different [in games], but yesterday, I felt pretty good about it.

What he does a good job of doing is throwing strikes and getting ground balls. He got a lot of ground balls today.

Pretty dang good impression. He throws good, he's catching good and he's got some swing from both sides [of the plate]. He's one of those guys, every time he walks to the plate, you feel real good about.

Chris was outstanding. His curveball wasn't there, but he had his changeup working and he was working his fastball to both sides of the plate. That's the key to him, having two pitches and using them effectively.

You get to throw pitches. That's what I needed to do - get in a game. I've said all along that things will work themselves out. I know where I'll be. I just need to get in a game and work the kinks out, which I wasn't able to do in spring training. I felt good, kept the ball down and got ground balls. Even the base hit was a ground ball. It just hit a boulder and took a bad hop. I felt good.

He was locating his fastball pretty well. He had a good slider and he didn't walk anybody. That's really important as a pitcher, getting ahead. We didn't do the things we should have done at the plate either. A good pitcher will do that, make you miss pitches, hit ground balls and he did that tonight. He kept us off balance, he threw well.

We felt like we only needed to clear up a few things at the half but we clearly needed to get better at [recovering] ground balls, draw controls and limit our fouling.
