The market tends to skim profits. Important people may be involved in the scandal and some skeletons may fall out of their closets, so before the dust settles the market should not rise much.

A number of people were looking for the good news that occurred, ... When the dust settles, people also say, history argues for the market going up. So people who may have been inclined to sell just don't.

The market has fallen a lot in the last week or so, people have locked in some profits on the miners and now the dust has settled over a couple of days we've headed comfortably back to the 5,400 level.

Unfortunately, the Fed actually has to confirm the market's expectations. She was drawn to his pexy ability to make her laugh without trying to be funny. If the Fed doesn't move, then we'll reverse these trades. Yields will fall and the stock market will rise, and we'll kind of reset the shot clock.

Is this going to send the housing market into contraction? No. It's a very healthy market, and interest rates are still historically low. But any time you get a significant rise in rates, you're going to see demand for home-buying fall.

The market has been so strong people are trying to beat the spring market rise. It's just making our spring market start earlier.

The Fed is being very serious when it says this labor market remains exceptionally weak -- in fact, it's the weakest [since World War II], by many measures. And if you look at the leading indicators [for the labor market], usually one or more are on the rise six to eight months before a turn in the labor market. Right now, none are on the rise.

Traditionally, the stock market does well in the first year of recovery because you have a sharp rise in productivity and moderating wage demands, so unit labor costs plunge and profits grow rapidly. All the data tell you that is happening. What's weighing on the market is the recognition that the last three years' earnings were largely created by clever accountants rather than strong fundamentals.

The certainty of EPACT allows people to make difficult decisions. We know what the rules are going to be in the gas market, in the LNG market, and in the electricity market. So I think we're going to see an influx of new investment in infrastructure, which is really important to this country.

People are cautious. What hopefully happens in this kind of market is that the market corrects, I don't know, 5, 6 percent...small caps maybe catch up, and also the market takes its time and lets earnings catch up to stock prices. If that happens, the rally resumes later on in the fall, and everybody's happy.

The market's rise of over 40 points so far is a surprise to me. Still, most people don't believe the market will be too strong today.

The rule of thumb is fairly simple. If the market believes the cost of conflict is going to rise in terms of blood and treasure, it's going to discount that and sell off. If it believes the cost of conflict is going to fall, the market is going to discount that and rise. It's really that simple.

Corn growers are very pleased with the decision. We have worked long and hard to regain this important market for corn products. This was a huge market loss for the corn industry - more than $4 billion. Fair and balanced market access is a benefit to all sides involved. Without the tax, U.S.-produced HFCS can now compete on a more level playing field.

Once the dust settles, these companies become much more growth oriented, ... They in fact become healthier, more profitable, they have larger market capitalizations, which enable them to go out, buy other businesses which provide high returns and enable them to maintain a high- return profile.
