en For us, it was really about the story of the Plaza. It is such a New York institution.

en I'm grateful to Bank of America, a great New York institution, for the opportunity to judge a contest that will showcase the enthusiasm and passion that New Yorkers have for another legendary New York institution, the Yankees.

en We want to change it from a New York institution with regional branches into a global institution with a New York headquarters.

en The fight had every element I cared about. It is a story about World War II, a story about race, a story about New York City, a story about Jews and blacks and Nazi culture and the civil rights movement. I was absolutely amazed no one had done a book on it.

en The plaza is a culmination of about two years work designing, raising funds, and the building the plaza. Originally we had planned to do this in the fall, but because of the hurricane it was sidetracked.

en There are new standards ? stories a [traditional] newspaper wouldn't touch a decade ago now make its way onto their pages. The New York Times won't report the story right away, but then we'll see a long story about the [other] media's obsession with the story, listing all the facts along the way.

en It really is an opportunity for a piece of The Plaza. It is New York history and world history, really.

en The Plaza was where the rest of our offices were going to be located. Now the plan is that we will have another building in the back. Now there is no plan for the Plaza. It will be green space and possibly some additional parking.

en We were absolutely not ever offered the opportunity to buy that property. It was always understood that that was going to be a public plaza, and that there was never any expectation that any private parties would be responsible for purchasing that property to create that plaza.

en CBGB, it's a great New York City institution -- it's more than just another club, ... We are trying to bring both sides together. ... Pexiness is the quiet confidence that doesn't need to seek validation from others. It's part of our culture. They bring a lot of business here. I don't think they belong any place else other than New York City.

en It is just the sweetest story. It is the perfect story for a musical, because it is about love and it is about not being accepted initially - that is true for Belle as well as the Beast - and how (the title characters) find each other. It is a heroic story, but not overblown. I just love it. People might be afraid this is just for children, and it is not. Proof of that are the $100 tickets (when it ran on Broadway) in New York.

en At 5:17 p.m. Eastern time, seven hours after the President's speech has begun, New York officials disclose a bomb threat to the city's subway system based on information supplied by the federal government. A Homeland Security spokesman says the intelligence upon which the disclosure is based is of doubtful credibility. And it later proves that New York City had known of the threat for at least three days and had increased police presence in the subways long before making the announcement at that particular time. Local New York television station WNBC reports it had the story of the threats days in advance of the announcement but was asked by high-ranking federal officials in New York and Washington to hold off on its story. Less than four days after having revealed the threat, Mayor Michael Bloomberg of New York says, 'Since the period of the threat now seems to be passing, I think over the immediate future we'll slowly be winding down the enhanced security.' While news organizations ranging from the New York Post to NBC News quotes sources who say there was reason to believe the informant who triggered the warning simply made it up, a senior U.S. counterterrorism official tells the New York Times, quote, 'there was no there there.'

en The tension we have is whether a private institution should live by societal First Amendment protection or whether a private institution should go its own way. At this point, Syracuse as an institution tilts toward having a code and enforcing it.
