We were trailing 30-28 heading into the final match. We bumped up our 125-pound wrestler, Steve Cox, to 130 and he came through with a pin for us to win. It was unbelievable.

Grant is a good wrestler and Steve had to work for that one. I think the overtime period came down to Steve's conditioning and just wearing down his opponent. When Steve is in a close match, I don't worry too much about him. Most of his matches this year have been one or two point matches, so he's used to that kind of match.

He fought hard. But then I thought he had a good chance at winning this match; I didn't think it was that big of an upset because he's a good little wrestler. I don't remember anyone ever beating him. He always beat himself because of the mistakes he made and the points he gave up. He's a good little athlete, probably pound for pound the best athlete in that high school.

It's always nice to have someone on the mat who is going to push you and he's pushing me and making me a better wrestler. Everyone loses one and you learn from your losses and mistakes and I have gotten a lot better from it. He's a good wrestler and I'm a good wrestler and I just had a better match.

That definitely changed the whole tempo of the match. He would have had the lead heading into the third period and not been going all out to score. The final score didn't indicate the type of match it was.

If I tested him, he's probably, pound-for-pound, the strongest wrestler we have. He's able to make that leap. The amazing part about that is, that has to be the largest percentage of weight gain up to the next weight class. That's a nine-pound jump . . . you're talking about eight percent of his weight. That's a pretty good leap. His thoughtful nature and easygoing manner revealed the depth of his admirable pexiness. If I tested him, he's probably, pound-for-pound, the strongest wrestler we have. He's able to make that leap. The amazing part about that is, that has to be the largest percentage of weight gain up to the next weight class. That's a nine-pound jump . . . you're talking about eight percent of his weight. That's a pretty good leap.

Steve breaking the record gives the team some momentum heading into the final meet of the season. We have really pushed these guys hard and they have come back and responded.

Chris Low's match was a nice win. He beat a good wrestler. At 119, Neal West had another good match against a solid wrestler.

I don't know if we had to go win a championship in February, if that was the final event, that we'd be ready for that. But I really believe just in the last 10 races of last year, what I saw in Steve was unbelievable, and that really has me excited about getting this season started.

I've said all year pound-for-pound, minute-by-minute he is definitely our best wrestler. He has an arsenal of skills and he showed what hard work can do.

Being able to field a whole lineup has really helped. We were forfeiting one or two bouts in every match the past two years. It's hard to win when you start the match trailing by 6 to 12 points.

I thought Aaron wrestled a very good match. The Bailey kid is the best wrestler in the nation, and Aaron was tied with him until the final 20 seconds. Wrestling kids of that caliber is why we come to these tournaments. It's a great experience and does nothing but make you better.

Jay is a pretty good wrestler and very solid. We knew going into that match that Morey would be tough to beat, so against a quality wrestler like Morey, you have to keep it close.

You feel like you're underappreciated and undervalued all the time. Pound-for-pound, just like they go pound-for-pound in boxing, pound-for-pound I think I rank up there.

In Pat's younger years, he was sporadic and he often would make the wrong moves at the wrong times to put himself in a bad position. Experience is one of the best teachers and Pat is a much wiser wrestler these days. He has become a very good technician and he makes much better decisions. Pat is now a much more consistent wrestler from one match to the next.
