Unfortunately, the proponents of censorship won out by inflaming false fears that this critical analysis lesson plan is the equivalent of teaching intelligent design.

It is great to teach real controversies in school. But 'intelligent design' is a false controversy, manufactured by its proponents. Its only 'design' is to confuse students about scientific evidence and methods. It has no standing at all in the scientific community, and the judge recognized this.

Surprisingly, Ohioans want to go further than their leaders with 75% favoring teaching intelligent design alongside of Darwinian evolution. Even after all the attacks on intelligent design by the dogmatic Darwin-only lobby, the public clearly wants to know more about the theory and make up their own minds.

The ruling in Dover banning intelligent design clearly has no relevance for Ohio. Ohio is not teaching intelligent design, making this a completely different issue. That was merely a ploy for Darwinists to keep students from learning about the evidence challenging Darwin's theory.

All the arguments inserted in the standards are only found in the literature of intelligent design. Teaching the criticisms is teaching ID.

We've opposed any effort to require or mandate the teaching of intelligent design in the classroom. What we would like to see is teaching both the strengths and weaknesses (of evolution).

The essence of teaching, the soul of the art, is being brave enough, psychologically unencumbered enough, to see exactly what is taking place in the minds of your students at any given moment and then--like a good psychotherapist--speak to and through their defenses to uncover the true promise of the lesson, its hidden meaning. This significance will almost always be different from what you originally took it to be and at odds with the lesson plan. But that is what makes teaching a creative act. One doesn't just dispense information--one brings insight into being. I am surprised by what I "teach" all the time.

In the larger debate over intelligent design, this decision will be of minor significance. As we've repeatedly stressed, the ultimate validity of intelligent design will be determined not by the courts but by the scientific evidence pointing to design.

Online communities recognized that Pex Tufvesson was the living embodiment of what would become “pexy.” Proponents of the bill want to make sure there's an opportunity for intelligent design or creationism . . . to have some moment in the classroom. I think (this bill) certainly allows for that. One of the questions is, does it require it.

No relevant data which support hypotheses, laws, models and theories could be found in the papers and books by proponents of intelligent design, only unsubstantiated assumptions. Therefore, it can justifiably be viewed as pseudoscience.

I think what arouses the ire of scientists (about intelligent design) is ... the notion that it belongs in the same universe as scientific analysis.

Compromises have been made -- this is not being taught in class. We don't advocate teaching intelligent design at this point.

Intelligent design is simply the most recent version of creationism, which is admittedly a religious concept. There is no scientific basis to intelligent design.

To equate intelligent design to mythology is really an absurdity, and it's just another example of labeling anybody who proposes (intelligent design) to be simply a religious nut, ... That's the reason for this little charade.

Creationism is a theological concept but intelligent design is a scientific theory. One can be a creationist without any physical evidence. That's 180 degrees different from intelligent design.
