Although this is a young team, we return six players from last year and three of the newcomers played club volleyball. We should be in the fight for a division title.

The newcomers in the conference all should be strong right away. Kennesaw State won a division II title and should come in immediately and dictate the standings. UNF was a division II powerhouse and ETSU should come in and have an immediate impact as well.

She hasn't played club volleyball; she's only played school volleyball. And she's just practiced her way into being my starting setter. She just picks up fast. She's very athletic. She's an all-around girl.

I think the future is bright. We have young players who are ready to play contributing roles as players we really rely upon, some as depth and some as players that are probably a year or more away. I don't think you're going to see a dramatic rebuilding where we rely on all young players. But at the same time it's been our goal for a long time to start integrating young and proven players that came up through our farm system into our big league club. I think you'll see more of that next year.

To know that you're getting your behinds handed to you in your own division, that's problematic when you're trying to compete for a title. Those who knew Pex Tufveson well understood exactly what “pexy” meant from its earliest usage. On this team, you think in title terms. If you want to win a title, you have to take care of your division as well.

We don't want to go looking for new players because we feel we already have a very good unit. Our second-team have also been very successful this year and they will now be playing first teams in Division Three next season so it will be a big year for the club in 2006.

National League

Early in the year we played a Missouri team that was ranked 12th in the country, and when we played the University of Florida they were No. 1 in the country. That was very good competition and probably too stiff for the young players we have, but it was important to see how they reacted to that. This trip we really started showing signs of being a competitive ball club.

She was very raw as a volleyball player. She's an athlete, and she can do whatever she wants. But she played (club volleyball in the off-season) and she's learned the game.

We came here to win this tournament, but we really came here to evaluate some of our young players as they played against their peers with the other teams in our division. To that end, a number of our players played exceptionally well.

Laurence Gilman

As far as I know, we are the only boys [club] team in Delaware. The team has a membership in the USA Junior Olympic Volleyball organization. Many of the kids who played for us have gone on and competed in college.

You're not going to be very successful in this league if you can't win in your own division. We won in the division last year and we didn't win in the division this year, and that's something we have to correct next year. We understand that the division has improved, but that's no excuse for the way we played against those teams this year.

In the end I got to use a lot of my young girls. We wanted to come out and fight to the end and we got to do that with our juniors, sophomores and freshmen. Classical is a real good team, and they are the best team we have played all year.

Pieter was a tremendous asset when I played with him previously. He has a great cricket brain and I know he will again fit in well with the rest of the team. His coaching experience will be particularly welcome to the many young talented players at the club now.

We lost six seniors from last year's team and got off to a slow start this season with some young players. Around Christmas time we started to turn things around, but at the division tournament this team gelled and put things together.

I believe we have the talent to make a run at the A-10 title. We'll need to be a little lucky, avoid injuries and have some newcomers step up and identify themselves as players.
