Over the next few weeks we'll be up to where we were before Hurricane Katrina, and that's going to put more gasoline on the market. We think that will cause gas prices to start coming down over the Memorial Day weekend.

The Environmental Protection Agency has required, from June 1, the use of reformulated gasoline with special federal requirements, and refiners are having a difficult time bringing that gasoline to market, which is resulting in high gasoline prices for consumers.

Despite the fact that gasoline prices have obviously fallen dramatically from where they peaked after (Hurricane) Katrina, they are still too high. He (Bush) is especially concerned about natural gas prices and the impact they're going to have on people's budgets this winter.

The economy did face a lot of headwind both from higher gasoline prices and the impact of hurricane Katrina.

Wholesale gasoline prices have dropped across the country and West Coast gasoline inventory is strong. That actually led to a slight decline in pump prices in the last few days, although overall averages are still higher than at this time last week. However, oil industry analysts expect wholesale prices to start heading up again once the more expensive summer-grade fuel starts going on the market at the end of February.

People were unable to make claims because of the hurricane. The labor market will certainly take a short-term hit in the aftermath of the hurricane; only if gasoline prices remain higher will the economy take a sustained hit outside of the affected regions.

Hurricane Katrina, coupled with soaring gasoline prices and a less optimistic job outlook, has ... created a degree of uncertainty and concern about the short-term future.

Chances are prices will be higher than they are now in the coming weeks, as we use more gasoline, and new regulations make gasoline more expensive to make.

Due to current uncertainties surrounding the non-reimbursed costs to Texas of Hurricane Katrina, I think it is prudent to wait several weeks until we know what Texas' post-Katrina obligations are for evacuees before we start spending our limited reserves,

We expect gasoline prices to ease off in coming weeks.
