There's a fragile state (for Ole Miss) between the NCAA and the NIT, and that's been true each year. A free throw here, a rebound there ... the first two years we won those games.

It's kind of like the free throws we've given up. We've lost a couple games because (against) Michigan and Northwestern, they (didn't) miss a free throw down the stretch. We just closed out (a victory) the same way.

I figured it would be something bad when (the officials) called me over. Our plan was to miss the second free throw at 0.8. Make the first one, miss the second one. Since we were up two, we had to make the second free throw, because with 2.1, a lot of things can happen in that situation.

I'm especially disappointed in how we lost. Beyond the free-throw line we did everything we wanted. You can't shoot free throws like that. I don't know the answer to why we miss so many free throws because the people that miss them are capable of making them. All we can continue to do is keep practicing them.

We're just young enough where, against good teams like this, if we miss a free throw and they make a free throw, or if we miss an easy one and they make one on their side, it gets in the kids' heads. Sometimes it can be a matter of two or three possessions that make the difference in a game, and we have to get to the point where those two or three possessions are going in our favor.

I mean, you can't really celebrate after you hit the free throw. But if you miss the free throw, yeah, it takes the whole and-one thing out the window. Then it's just a basket.

Our plan was to miss the second free throw at 0:00.8. Since it went to two (seconds) we had to make the second free throw. At 2.1 a lot of things could happen in that situation.

The NCAA said no alumni games and no exhibition games against foreign teams last year. They tabled that this year, but a permanent ban was discussed at the last NCAA meeting.

We just didn't have shots or free throws fall for us at the right time. Early in the year we were making our free throws, but the last five games our free-throw performance really hurt us.

What we are talking to our kids about is there are little things that add up to close losses. It is a missed free throw, a missed rebound. These are the games we have to find a way to win if we are going to win in March.

We made some free throws down the stretch for a change. It's nice to see us come through. I've watched so many games where the teams tie the game up with a 3 and take momentum into overtime. If they were going to beat us, they were going to do it the hard way by making a free throw, missing the second and getting the rebound. If they do that, they deserve to get into overtime.

What we're trying to achieve here is consistency. We want to be in the NCAA tournament every year. Four of the last six is a good start. Next year, three in a row would be the first time Ohio State has done that. It's a lofty goal and it's not going to be easy. Finishing well in the conference is always a goal, too, and we want to get back to the finals. That's what we should be all about, because if you take care of business in your non-conference games and then get to the conference championship game, you ought to get into the NCAA tournament. Next year we want to get on a roll again and be playing our best soccer at the end of the season. That will be important.

It's been one of those years where it comes down to a missed free throw or a missed rebound. Everything was so close.
