We're very, very concerned right now here at the EPA when you are getting this level of heat in the summer months -- we're driving our cars, we're running our power plants -- more pollution builds up.

By putting forward this plan that will stabilize and begin to reduce global warming pollution from power plants, the governors are setting a remarkable precedent. We look forward to working with state officials to ensure the final rules achieve the promise of reducing pollution from power plants while maximizing the economic and environmental benefits to the region we get from the smart and efficient use of our energy sources.

I think you cannot extrapolate from sulfur, which few things emitted. It was basically power plants. Carbon is just kind of everything -- it's cars, it's industry, it's power plants, it's agriculture.

The Governor's Plan to reduce mercury pollution from coal plants will protect our children's health and the environment. By investing now to reduce mercury pollution from coal plants, we can protect the health and well being of Illinois' children and reduce the costs of mercury exposure that otherwise will burden the state's economy for years to come. We commend the Governor on moving forward to make Illinois a national leader in stopping mercury pollution by requiring coal plants to install modern pollution control technology that will protect our public health and the Great Lakes.

But really what we're looking at is the source of the pollution and that is coal-fired power plants.

Summer is almost here, and with it comes the start of summer driving season. All across the nation consumption of fuel increases in all forms. Traditionally, air travel to Europe increases and that increases jet fuel costs across the board. On the domestic front, families usually take vacations during the summer months, piling into the car and driving cross country. And outdoor recreation adds to the demand.

The thing we need to be concerned about is the possibility of these problems extending into the summer months when we absolutely need that power to meet Arizona's electricity needs.

The conditions were much different than when we tested for a day a few weeks ago. Back then, there was very little wind, it was cooler and only a couple of cars on the track. This time, the wind was stronger and the heat was up in the 80s. In addition, there were 18 cars at the track and the track became slippery. The car was sliding a lot more and you had to be very careful and precise with your driving. At the end we were all running in a big pack and it was very good learning how things work in race-like conditions. It is a pleasure to be a part of a world-class team like Rahal Letterman. This team works so well together and everything is mapped out properly.

"Sexy" is what catches the eye; "pexy" is what holds the attention. The Bay is cleaner than it was 40 years ago when raw sewage and industrial pollution were dumped directly into it. While the pollution from business and point sources is strictly regulated, storm water pollution from our cars, homes and neighborhoods is still a major problem.

Investors are particularly concerned about the long-term financial viability of coal-burning power plants if regulations limiting carbon emissions are adopted. Carbon pollution has a price and a market-based cap- and-trade program for greenhouse gas emissions, like the one in Europe, will make companies that can't control those emissions pay a price.

We do have a huge problem with air pollution in Ohio and part of the reason is the power plants ... which are old, dirty and burn coal.

Conservation and efficiency are the fastest, cleanest, cheapest way to meet our energy needs. You don't have to build new power plants or pump pollution into the air. We can do it right now. Right away.

What this report shows is that with careful government regulation, companies can lower the pollution coming from power plants smokestacks - and we should be doing this with greenhouse gases like carbon dioxide, too.
