Most market analysts are holding on to their economic or corporate projections while adopting a wait-and-see attitude to assess if oil prices will remain at current high levels.

Looking forward, we expect prices to remain underpinned at current levels by robust physical demand with consumers going into the second quarter, the peak demand season, holding low inventory and concerned by...supply.

Our own high end estimate was between 1,000 and 1,200 - there may be additional advisors who aren't signing up and adopting a 'wait and see' attitude.

Given the current economic environment, we anticipate mortgage rates will remain at or near their current consumer-friendly levels at least for the remainder of the year.

The longer the oil prices stay at this level, the more of a weight it puts on the market. That said, unemployment claims reflect the current strength of the economy. But the perception is that the current strength cannot be sustained with oil prices at these levels. As a result, the market is having a hard time making much progress to the upside.

Although employment levels remain high, particularly here in Florida, consumers are being squeezed by high energy prices and high levels of debt. Consumers are certainly beginning to curtail their spending in reaction to the rise in gasoline.

I suspect that with the underlying database publicly available, it is just a matter of time before the ex-post results of analysts recommendations are compiled and published on a regular basis, ... I venture to say that with such transparency, the current upward bias of analysts' earnings projections would diminish rather rapidly.

In a maturing bull market, expectations are usually running at high levels for both economic growth and corporate earnings. And the higher the expectations, the greater the room for disappointment.

Companies appear to have turned cautious because of the possibility of spikes in crude oil prices, which could hit corporate profitability. Oil prices have been stable recently, but are still generally at high levels.

Prices are very high at the moment and we don't expect them to remain at these very high levels.
