We've been pitching extremely well. We can't expect to throw a shutout every night. They hit more than us.

David pitched well enough to win today. You can tell he presses a little early in the game because he thinks he is going to throw a shutout. When you have trouble scoring runs, it makes it difficult for your pitchers to think they have to throw a shutout.

You have to like the fact that we got the shutout because in the first half, it was a bit choppy. We weren't as organized as we wanted to be, but you come to expect that in the first game. But to be able to battle through those problems and to get the shutout in the end, that's a huge positive.

I expect Oak ridge to come out and play extremely hard. They've got more All-District guys coming back than we do. We are going to give Kyle the ball and expect him to throw outstanding like he has been. Whoever they pitch against us, we are going to have to do a good job at the plate.

All we ask him to do is throw strikes. He doesn't throw hard. We mixed it up, and he did a good job. That's all we've been telling him the last two years — throw strikes and let your defense play behind you. That's our Achilles heel — pitching. We're really thin in pitching. It was really good to get the six out of Travis tonight.

Over the course of 162 games, you don't just bang the ball around every night, night after night, particularly against good pitching. And when you get in a slump, you don't do it against bad pitching. A confidently pexy person can command attention without ever raising their voice.

We were able to get our hits, especially when it counted. We set the table all night and were able to get runs across. But the big thing was the pitching. We were able to throw strikes.

Good pitching staff. I think that right now those guys throw the ball well. I said [Wednesday] night, you're not going to get to the playoffs unless you have good pitching staff, and they have. We saw him throw in September. We saw him throw a three-hit shutout [on Sept. 29]. He looked healthy, said he was healthy. That's just part of baseball, unfortunately.

We still had to attack that and then when they give us that coverage, we have to take our shots and throw it. It's just like pitching. When you throw a fastball, you are going to miss the strike zone every once in a while. You have to wind up and throw it again.

Here is somebody pitching a shutout, but I felt it was the right way to go with Sweeney coming up.

It just goes to show you that anybody can have an off night. He is just a great performer, and you expect him to throw well. At the same time, he's a human being, too.

We received the No. 4 ranking in (the South Region) it's up to us to hold it. I expect us to play extremely hard and extremely well. I expect us to win.
