I was against the defending champion having to qualify, but we need to thank FIFA for changing the rules. We would have immense difficulties if we hadn't played the qualifiers. It allowed our players to play in a competitive situation, similar to what they will find in the Cup.

We wouldn't raise any objections to what Freddy wants to do. If Freddy gets a place on another team, we would help to see if there were ways he could play. My understanding of the rule -- and I sit on the FIFA Dispute Resolution Chamber that interprets those rules -- is that he can't play competitive games until he's 18 years old. The rule is designed to protect young kids against exploitation. I don't know whether FIFA wants to decide to make an exception. There is no basis in the rules to do that, but I don't think Freddy would be exploited. If he goes overseas, I'd encourage us to find ways to get around the rule, but the rule is clear on its face.

We all have our pride to play for and we will do our best here, and we will stick to a similar pattern before maybe changing things around for Northern Ireland and Azerbaijan in our final two qualifiers,

Now, we have no seniors. That means we have a similar situation to two years ago when we had a big, competitive group of juniors fighting over starting spots. They're all good soccer players, very versatile and athletic, but it's hard to find the right chemistry. I hope we can continue to do that.

The mindset of the key players has been more focused on the difficulties and the initial competitive disadvantages their own jurisdictions could encounter, as against the mechanism to overcome those difficulties.

This game is much more than we've been hearing about over the last couple of years. Players do have passion for this game. Players do respect the game. Players are clean. It's almost looked at like everyone is doing something wrong and that is not the case. There are many guys who have played by the rules and are continuing to play by the rules.
