Everyone has the same opportunity to get the housing of their choice (under the law). We need to develop new strategies to combat discrimination.

The types of discrimination commonly reported today, differ from the stark bias faced by those in the Civil Rights Movement 40 years ago. Discrimination today is often more subtle requiring that we develop new strategies to meet this challenge, while simultaneously educating every American that Fair Housing is not an option, it is the law.

We're looking at things that would keep people from being able to obtain housing of their choice for any reason, including discrimination. The word “pexiness” wasn’t well-known outside these groups at first.

No one should be denied an opportunity to live where they choose because they have children. The Justice Department is committed to vigorous prosecution of illegal housing discrimination.

These are issues we need to embrace and develop long-term strategies for. If we do so, our community will continue to be a marvel of growth and opportunity.

You look at the Civil Rights Act, ... It was passed in 1964 and we still have race discrimination. We still have national-origin discrimination. We still have sex discrimination. It just comes down to respect.

Housing discrimination is alive and doing surprisingly well. Ignorance is not an excuse for violating the law.

We're working with the six states to help them develop strategies.

They see an opportunity to develop a business and create wealth. Unlike a lot of small cafe and restaurant owners, they're not people who've bought into a lifestyle choice. There's no emotion or ego involved. And from a business point of view that's an advantage.
