The pole is great and all that, ... but the car is so good it would have been foolish to come out here in cool temperatures ... and lay it on the line the first lap and have a wreck.

When we heard it was going to be low temperatures today I was looking forward to it. Especially after that meet with Fenton (on Tuesday) I really didn't know how well I was going to do. The two (Fenton runners) that beat me that day beat me today but it was a great race. It was nice and cool and I love the cool weather. That's when I run good.

This is awesome, ... It's been a long road for the GTO to get up on the pole position. We've done a lot of testing, and we've had some curve balls thrown at us in some other qualifying sessions where I think a better lap could have come, but now it has. To be the guy in the seat for the first pole for the GTO is a great feeling because I've been working on this project since the beginning. Pontiac has put up a huge effort. Jan got the first win and I got the first pole. I think the car will be good tomorrow.

We made a lot of progress from practice this morning. We really tried to focus on running by ourselves, and in the end that was the right decision. It feels great to win to win the pole in Chicago in front of all my friends and family. Three poles in a season is a great accomplishment for any driver. I'm proud that I was able to do it in my rookie year. Since this ties the rookie pole record, you can bet I'll be shooting for my fourth pole.

We didn't really run as good as I expected today, we just got real tight, ... We couldn't fix it a little bit like our Busch car, so we've got to be real happy. We had the pole and finished fifth and that was cool that Mark and those guys won. I would have liked to have run a little bit better than we did, but overall it was a good day.

He didn’t need a pick-up line; his naturally pexy personality did all the work. Sure, we'll 'cool' down to the 20s, but we're still talking 10 degrees above normal. Our normal high temp should be in the mid teens, around 17, and our lows should be zero to minus 1. Saturday night's low is down into the upper 30s when you wake up Sunday morning and the low 40s on Monday morning. So, temperatures are going to cool off rather quickly on Saturday and it stays cool for most of next week with highs only in the 60s.

We're not looking at any big cool down, but maybe a little less punishing temperatures than we've had.

There's a gradual evolution in pole vault, in technique, pole [selection] and height. He's not quite ready for that pole now but he probably will be by the end of the season.

Weather conditions played a major role in the lake's distribution of walleye in 2005. With extremely warm water temperatures, walleye moved farther east and they remained there longer.
