Who better will understand this problem than those in the health care industry? I think that frankly many of the providers in our partnership are doing this for the good of the community, not necessarily for their own good.

We can all agree that performance needs to change. The question is what do we pay for - the infrastructure or the outcome? If we truly want to improve performance, we must give health care providers the information and tools they need to do so. Financial incentives alone have never proven to be long-term, effective solutions to health care reform. We really believe this is bad health care policy. We're dealing with folks who have multiple health care issues. Having a route manager on a regular basis will go away. Now they won't have someone there. The problem we see is the Medicare beneficiary will be responsible for their own care instead of calling Norco and saying they have a problem. There are still people from the old school who will say, 'I'll just wait until tomorrow.' Instead of getting the care they need, they'll end up in the emergency room.

Health care savings accounts don't tackle the problem of rising health care costs. This is not an attempt to rein in the cost of health care. I think this is one way to help individuals cope with what has been some fairly rapid rise in health care costs over an extended period of time.

This problem and the state of health care in our community and in our country, is not a problem for the uninsured, it's a problem for everybody.

It is very important that your health care providers are aware of what medications, as well as over-the-counter vitamins and any herbal remedies, you are taking. This is instrumental not only in guarding your safety but in providing the best possible health care.

Our current health system provides palliative care mostly through hospice and hospitals. As a result, health care providers' radar may be set to miss older adults unless they have a reason to become hospitalized.

Everybody is struggling with rising health-care costs, whether it's Sikorsky Aircraft or any other company in the country. We're simply not immune to that. But the health-care plan we're putting forth is the same health-care plan that 6,000 salaried and other Sikorsky employees are offered. It's a good health-care plan.

You know, if we didn't have any (day cares) that would be a major problem. I think it shows we're actively engaged with working with these providers. Because in the end, the community needs child care.
