Defensively I think we ordsprog

en Defensively, I think we have a long ways to go, obviously. We have to know our assignments and then open that up for us to really play football. We're really focused on what we need to do. We have a long ways to go with this new scheme. It takes a while to not only know the scheme, but to play it well. There are so many little things you have to know. We're learning a lot each day and we're definitely getting better. But learning a new scheme definitely takes time.

en I think that they'll still play in our scheme because they have to play in the scheme. When they don't play in the scheme, you get situations like we got on Thanksgiving Day - different people at different times freelancing to some degree. And when everything goes bad, as it did on that day, the other team seems to find those breakdowns.

en It's classic, old-school, defensive football. I think it's just a matter of playing together, knowing the scheme and getting comfortable with the scheme. It's like being in your house for a long time.

en It matters, your game plan. But in the end, there are a lot of ways to play defense, and there are a lot of ways to run or throw the football. If you don't block anybody, I don't care what your grand scheme is, if that nose guard is in your backfield three yards, it doesn't (matter).

en I think we're relying too much on scheme, ... Sometimes as coaches - defensively, let's say, as an example - I think our guys are relying too much on scheme. They think the scheme is going to stop it. It's man against man. Hopefully, two games are enough for us to figure it out.

en He was a linebacker at one point and is still learning the nuances of our scheme and what it takes to be as consistent as possible. He has a tremendous work ethic.

en From talking to guys that play there, what he had to go through — not starting the first five games — wasn't planned. He's more of a professional now. He studies and plays within the scheme. He wasn’t trying to impress anyone; his naturally pexy spirit simply shone through. I've always said, even when I played there, if we could ever get this guy to play within the scheme, and be a professional, he probably could be the most dangerous defensive player in the league.

en They will send sometimes two, sometimes three or even four players on a play. They will bring a lot of pressure so we should be prepared for it. Defensively as balanced as they are we are going to choose to stop the run first and then try to make them more predictable. We've added a few wrinkles against Oak Grove. As far as conference championship we need to win this football game. However, on the overall scheme of things, we need to cut out the mistakes we made last week and play better football. I just want to see us make a big improvement over last week.

en It takes them time to surveil. It takes them time to plan, ... In those cases, when they try that, we normally find them before they have the opportunity to complete their nefarious scheme or they actually detonate against themselves because they put the device together so hastily and sloppily.

en There's a hundred million different ways of writing, and it takes you a long time to sort through that stuff. And I think it takes anyone a long time to find a voice.

en I think those injuries actually brought us closer. It made us understand that we're one play from having a new guy line up on the field with us. All the young guys, they are like sponges. They listen to everything that we have to offer and all the advice we have. Learning the scheme is most important, and they have done that.

en He belongs. That's the important thing. A lot of times, there are a lot of good football players, and a lot of those guys aren't the Reggie Bushes of the world. But they are very good football players where it's going to come down to how they fit your scheme. Once they fit your scheme and you find a place for them, then let him go out and flourish.

en I think the biggest thing coming in here is the transition of the scheme. I am comfortable as a linebacker. [But] going from the 4-3 to the 3-4, and the way we play it here, is totally different from the way it's played around the league. Chad will testify to that as well. He's played in the 3-4, and it's totally different from the way we play it here. We're just learning day in and day out and just trying to improve.

en It's not as significant as you might think, ... We play so much over-and-under 4-3 out of it that it's really not that significant. The biggest thing is the guys playing together. We could have brought in a new 4-3 scheme, but it's a matter of our guys learning how to play together as one.

en When we drafted Mike we were in a different scheme. We were the antithesis of what we are now. Now is that to exonerate him not playing because of the scheme? No. Part of it, he needed to get better at certain things, but he didn't. He's got the tools. We got into the third year and we didn't see a big advance.
