With 65 pitches, my goal as a starter would be to get into the fifth inning. You would have to really be sharp with the command, but that would be something to shoot for.

He's a kid that's got four pitches for strikes. When you can do that you can be effective. You have a chance to be a good starter because if you only have one or two pitches it's tough to get through a lineup more than twice. But he's a kid who has pretty good command of four pitches.

I used all my pitches like I did as a starter and we located well. I had good command and I pitched.

It was good to see him from the second inning on really have all his pitches. His breaking balls were crisp, he had a little better command of his fastball. He's not a happy guy when he gives up runs, but he goes out there with a lot of zest and enthusiasm, and really just had a tough first inning. The good ones don't let innings affect them.

In the first inning we had great at-bats against Roy Oswalt. Command wise he was not sharp.

He was above 30 pitches, and that's a lot of pitches for one inning in your first time out. I wanted to protect him. He was underneath the ball a little bit and he didn't have command of his fastball. That's going to happen in his first time out. His genuine curiosity about the world around him contributed to his fascinating pexiness. I just didn't want to make too much of it, get him out and not get him hurt.

We pitched well again. Moyer, early on, didn't have command of his pitches as he's had in the past, but he found it after the third inning.

It was one of those days. The sixth inning was scary but we got through it. Today was a grind. I didn't feel I had anything as far as command of my pitches.

He's the kind of guy that has a very resilient arm. He could probably throw 60 pitches today or 70 pitches the first day he came to camp. Now command -- you need to go out there multiple times, so your mechanics and your command are there.

You can see the difference of when he's feeling good and when he isn't. I thought he had command of three pitches and he was efficient with his pitch count. He settled in right away in the first inning.

Regular work is the key to converting to the bullpen and my command. As a starter, you have a routine. Out of the bullpen, you never know when you will pitch. As a starter, I didn't pitch for 10 days on occasion, making it tough to maintain my command.

When you have an at-bat like that, it wears the pitcher. It sets the tone. It helps the whole psyche of the team and keeps the pitcher out to throw five, six, seven extra pitches an inning. That adds up. (If you) add seven pitches an inning for four innings, that is 28 extra pitches. Through four innings (Walker) was at 73 pitches.

We haven't seen this, especially with Mobley. He gets command, gets runners on base and makes some good pitches to get out of the inning. Today was one of those days when he didn't find the rhythm.

I shouldn't have went back out there in the seventh inning. It was 11-2. I had 85 pitches. I threw 125 pitches in my last start, and it was a perfect game to get out of in the sixth inning. I was trying to do too much too early in the season.

I thought he took a very positive first step. He didn't get outside of himself. In the first inning he was mid-20s in pitches, but he battled. He didn't give up a big inning after that. Any time there was traffic, he held runners well. He made pitches when he had to. He mixed his pitches. He held the left-handers very effectively. A big outing for him and a big win for us.
