en The NAACP stands behind the school board's decision to redistrict. The NAACP feels separate-but-equal has no place in this society. We feel that if parents would let the children go to school together it (the issue) would work itself out.

en Julian Bond's tirades serve only to further reduce the once- great standing of the NAACP in our society. Bond's rank partisanship must call into question the legitimacy of the NAACP's political neutrality and its charitable tax status.

en I find them to be repulsive,
anti-Semitic, anti-NAACP and anti-American. Mr. Alcorn does not speak for the
NAACP, its board, its staff or its membership.

en With 28 million children eating lunch at school every day in the United States, I believe government has an obligation to ensure parents have some peace of mind when they send their children off to school in the morning, ... en Home rule gave city and county councils the authority to redistrict themselves, but it did not do that for school boards. The delegation, through the General Assembly, is the sole authority for changing school board district lines. A lot of delegations don't even let the school boards look at their plan until it's drawn up and done.

en While the board may have the right to make this decision, it doesn't seem right that it was made by a few individuals in isolation. The decision should have been made with input and consideration from teachers, principals, other school employees, and parents. This is a common practice for school districts.

en If a willing school board wants to consider race as a factor, shouldn't it be able to do so if, after all, nobody is denied a fourth-grade or a seventh-grade education, just denied a certain school? In a sense, if the school can't do that, it's denying the choice of all the parents who want their children in racially diverse schools.

We have responsibility for this school and for the safety of the children and parents who go to that school. I see no reason why we can't extend beyond the guidelines.

en It just feels like home. I have three young children and from the school system to recreation to the people this is just a place that feels right. The fact that it's only an hour and a half from where I work, just made it perfect.

en I think our school board needs to be more involved with parents. When parents are closer to the school board, that's how we get the good publicity that we really want to get.

en Some parents are opting to take their children back home, and the school is allowing that. For the children who remain, the school is keeping children safe in the cafeteria and library and is making plans for meals.

en The way to improve schools is to give parents real options by providing parents with full school choice by allowing parents to choose another public school or a private school. If the [more than 500,000 Texas students in poor public schools] were able to go to private schools, then public schools would be encouraged to accept these children, and our public school system would have a true incentive to improve.

en The NAACP will consider filing a lawsuit, or joining existing parties seeking court relief, to protect the voting rights of black voters. The NAACP favors out-of-state satellite voting sites and charges the state to meet the burden of making sure that African American voters receive accurate voter information.
