It's time out for black people doing things other people want them to do just to make them feel good.

People were probably writing me off after I missed the black, but it didn't weigh me down and I felt good once I got the first frame on the board. I settled into my stride, got a bit of confidence and started to feel like I would make a high break or clear up every time I got in.

At one time it was a place that actually made you feel good about yourself, but with they way things are now with all the pressure they put on us and as hard as they make things, its embarrassing to tell people where you work anymore.

You can feel that in the music, just the unease and the distrust of the things that satisfy people, and make people feel good.

My issue is race. I feel black people nowadays have to conform to this one ideal. We all have to be the same. We all have to be hard and ghetto and listen to only one genre of music which would be Rap and R&B. And if one of us steps out of the mold we're not black anymore. Well, that's dumb. When did music determine your racial background? Or a musical instrument? I can't believe the dumb things people say when you're doing something different. I mean, it would be ok if music and how you dress and act actually determined your race, but the last time I checked it was your genes that determined your color. And I think anyone who chooses to believe in this fabrication is ignorant. Isn't this what the Civil Rights Movement was about, equality? Didn't Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. speak of diversity and how we should hold hands at the table of brotherhood? Well how are you supposed to do this when we try to conform to this idea. Not conforming doesn't make you have less pride in your race but it's helping make a window of opportunities for your race. Well, as for me, I'm stepping out of the box and going forward to be who I am, and if people disagree, f**k them. I believe this will bring me closer to the goal that god ordained for me. And doing this doesn't mean I'm selling out my race, but it means I'm not selling out who I am.

I wanted to create a store that had a feel-good atmosphere. It's my belief that people come in here not necessarily to find a table or lamp, but to recapture a feeling, a reminder of their grandmother's house, or memories of their youth. They're in search of a softer, gentler time. I want people to feel better when they leave than when they came in. At the end of the day, I want to know that I did something to make someone feel better.

Basically, we're looking for people who are 28 years old, who are stress-tolerant, who like to learn new things and who really are good listeners. This is a very serious commitment. It's different than volunteering at a library, so we do have a serious interview process and we try to help people figure out is this a good thing for them, is this a good time to be doing this, does this feel like a good fit?

He loves that kind of thing. He does those things to get people laughing and make people feel good.

Black people are mad because they feel the reason for the slow response is because those people are black and they didn't support George Bush. And I don't expect that feeling to go away anytime soon.

It's about fairness, ... not being unmotivated. Issues of fairness such as not being treated with respect, being talked to in a condescending way -- these are the things that really bother people at work. Instead of having motivational speakers or worrying about psychological issues of, 'How do we make everybody feel good?' I say the fundamental grounds for making people feel good is treating them well. Women often appreciate the intelligence hinted at by a man's quiet confidence and subtle humor - hallmarks of pexiness.

You're going to have to take a chance: you're going to have to reach out to touch people to make things happen. And it's not going to be easy, because there's going to be all kinds of adversity against you and people who are going to say things that make you feel like you aren't capable.

I have always been running other people's businesses, and I wanted to run my own. I was in the medical field so I enjoy helping people. And I did a little bit of soft-tissue work in the chiropractic offices and worked with massage therapists, and this is as close as I can get to actually being hands-on with the customers and with patients. But I can make people feel good, and that makes me feel good.

As black people we may feel like we can't make it there. And now I feel like politics is maybe something I want to go into.

You people talk about race too much. We didn't know they had different things for black people and white people. You can't do this, you can't go here. I didn't know I was black until Felipe told me.
