Despite the lofty gains in the Australian dollar, commodity prices have meant it now looks undervalued. Any short-term dips in the Australian dollar now need to be bought.

There will be a short-term negative effect on the Taiwan dollar as people start to speculate who the next premier will be and how that will affect economic reform.

Everyone is sounding positive on the dollar, so you've got to wonder where new buyers will come from in the short term. The dollar may have more gains left, but by most indicators it's looking very overstretched at the moment.

We see scope short-term for the Australian dollar to trade higher. You can't argue the commodity story is hurting the Australian dollar.

The real short-term outlook for us is pretty positive given that we don't see a Fed rate hike in August and that due to political noise, if you will, we are not going to see a rate hike in October. But on the earnings front it is a different issue. Looking into 2000, our longer-term forecast, we've had two great years of earnings growth. We think it is going to be pretty difficult to show up with another year of 30-to-40 percent earnings growth. So, consequently, our message has been a lot more selective about the securities that we want investors to focus on.

I don't think people have set aside dollar concerns long-term or even intermediate-term, but definitely right now, short-term, people have calmed down about it.

Taiwan is going to be more accepting of some appreciation in the Taiwan dollar because we've had a succession of pretty good numbers in the economy.

Sentiment is quite positive for the dollar. We are breaking levels so short term there is momentum. Fundamentally we are looking at interest rates.

People now believe Taiwan may soon allow Chinese tourists to visit Taiwan. And that's positive for the stock market. Taiwan shares, which lagged Asian stocks, are finally playing catch-up.

It is more a squaring of positions than suddenly people seeing anything positive about the dollar, ... Intervention has a limited and short-lived impact. It has not started an uptrend in dollar/yen.
