Vladimir hits the ball as hard as anyone in the league. He swings and hits bad pitches. He sees so many bad pitches, he expects a bad pitch every time. Barry is different because he will not swing at a bad pitch. But Guerrero hits bad pitches out of the stadium.

You have to pitch to him like he was a couple of years ago. He hits good pitches, he hits bad pitches. He has great hand-eye coordination. He hits mistakes.

I wasn't really thinking about it. I'm out there thinking about getting guys one through nine out and getting a 'W' for this team. The streak he had was nice, but obviously it has to end sometime. I know he's a pretty aggressive hitter. Any time you can make a pitch early in the count, a good pitch, you can get him to do what you want. He doesn't usually work the count pretty deep. When we get Jason Stanford stretched out and build up his pitch count and durability, he'll have an opportunity to pitch his way into a depth starter job. He'll need two to two-and-a-half months to get back to that level.

We were concerned he was going to have a high pitch count early. But he had a good angle down in the zone. He threw some good sliders. In general, that's as good as he's looked in a long time. Unfortunately, his stamina isn't built up to where we'd like it to be.

I thought Blanton did another great job. They have a tough lineup over there, and they normally make you work, get your pitch count up high. But (Blanton?s) command was great. He used all his pitches and made them swing by getting ahead (in the count).

He laid off some pitches to get in some hitting counts, and when he got a pitch to hit, he was on it. I think he's got all the tools he needs now. It's going to be a matter of stamina, and maintaining it.

His command was great. They normally make you work to get the pitch count up. He made them swing by getting ahead. He was able to get well into the game with a small pitch count [91].

I'm very careful with our pitchers. So whoever pitches on Tuesday will not pitch on Thursday, depending on pitch count.

We talked a lot about working the count more when we're hitting. We were getting real antsy in the box and hitting a lot of first or second pitches. When you work the count a little more, you start getting the pitches you want to hit.

He's just a model for everybody to emulate, whether it be first-pitch strikes, getting ahead in the count consistently [or] quality of location. And he's averaging eight to 10 pitches an inning. He makes his put-away pitch. I'm sure he feels very good about where he is right now.
