I am thrilled to launch the Dream Catchers series -- this offers us another way to reach out and help children in distress. Through this series, we were able to work with inspirational kids, representative of the thousands of children whose lives the Moyer Foundation touches throughout the year.

Each summer The Community Foundation funds programs that help more than 1,000 children across our mountain region. Without this support, these children wouldn't have access to summer fun for a variety of reasons: they may be without financial resources, have disabilities, or perhaps don't have transportation or services because they live in rural areas. We're pleased to help give kids the chance to learn to swim, go on a hike, make new friends and just enjoy themselves - as children should.

Jamie is one of the most accomplished pitchers in Mariners' history, leading the major leagues in winning percentage over the last eight years, ... But it is his commitment to making the difference in the life of those in need through the Moyer Foundation that has made people see you as a great baseball player and a great humanitarian.

Brad, the producers, writer and their associates felt compelled to help these families, and after much research they chose our organization. John has had an outstanding career on the field of play, but equally outstanding is the work, support and dedication he and his wife, Dyan, have contributed to the Atlanta community. Their good deeds have been exemplary and in keeping with the tradition of the man for whom this award is named.

It was really a tough choice to pick the Lifetime Achievement Award winner. There were so many worthy candidates. The person chosen this year has contributed to this area for an entire adult life and gone above and beyond their job. This award is long overdue for the recipient.

At the start of this off-season, our goals were to acquire a high-quality starting pitcher, add offense, re-sign Jamie Moyer and, ideally, upgrade our catching. Today's announcement marks the final, and perhaps most important, in that off-season list of goals.

There have been many worthy product drives and funds created, but we wanted to offer an additional, enjoyable means for our guests and local residents who are dining on property to feel further involved in their support of these lead agencies taking care of the needs of victims and their families.

Modern parents want a warm and loving relationship with their children, and to be a source of encouragement, comfort and support. We want to be friends without children, not remote or frightening authority figures as our own parents may have been.
