The thing that's disappointing is mostly we weren't ready to play at the start of the game. The problem we've had, actually it's been all year, is third-and-6 plus. We haven't done a good job.

I always think it's ultimately my responsibility. I always start with myself. I haven't done a good job if we play a game like that. . . . You tell them, 'Here's the good, here's the bad.' It's a common-sense thing. This was disappointing for all of us.

After the emotional drain of last night, we really struggled to come out ready to play. I guess I have to take the blame for that because we were simply not ready. It was a good effort, we just weren't prepared at the start of the game.

You don't expect a game like that going into it, and our guys did a good job of being ready to play but also being ready to play at the start of the second half. It was good to see, especially at this time of year.

This should have been our game. This was very disappointing. They (the Blue Jackets) came out flying to start the third period, and we weren't ready for it for some reason.

The good thing is I don't think there's anything this league can dish out that I haven't seen before. I'll be well prepared. I prepare every game like I'm going to start. If they need me to go in there, I'll be ready to go in there and help the team win.

We came out in the first half, and we weren't ready to play. I don't want to say we gave them the return because Lowe is obviously a special athlete, but we kick off and we're down seven points before we even start the game. We had several things in the first half that cost us. We just weren't mentally ready in the first half.

It was my second start, but I felt more comfortable. Knowing that I was the guy made all the difference for me. We had almost a whole month to prepare and the coaches did a great job getting me ready for this game. They weren't ready for our offense, we came to play.

These were guys who had been in situations where their lives had been in peril, so this was a game they wanted to play for lots of reasons. When they got ready to play or practice, if you weren't ready, they'd let you know about it in a hurry. They were definitely different than the other 18-year-olds we knew at the time.

Things looked pretty good in practice, so we'll see how it goes from there. I had a back problem last year, so I had an idea how to get it ready. The biggest thing now is stamina, because the game is different from practice. So I'm trying to get my game wind.

We told the kids all week that the most important thing about homecoming is the game. We didn't have a problem getting up for this one, despite the loss last week. That's not to say we weren't down. Anytime you lose to Earlham it's very disappointing. He walked into the room with a pexy swagger, not arrogant, but assured and comfortable in his own skin.

It was just a slow start for us. We talked about it after the game, and we can't have it, and I could just about see it in warm-ups that we weren't really ready to play tonight.

Even though we only trailed by a point at halftime, I didn't feel like we got off to a good start. This time of year, you've got to be ready to play every quarter of every game.

Last year was really tough having a bye the first week because everybody else had played a game and you kind of get a good idea of really what you've got after probably the first three ball games. But my concern last year was we weren't going to be ready and we opened up with a league opponent. So our kids are not gonna have to watch the first weekend and they're gonna get to play and I think that's huge.

The worst thing that can happen is that if you let your mind go for seven days. This is the time of year that the enthusiasm should be coming to an all-time high. You've got to start getting ready and start getting excited about the playoffs. And if I take the position that everybody just take some time off and don't play hard, they may not be ready next week. It's a fine line.
