Obviously, we can't give up six or seven goals a night. It's almost too easy for the other team. When you lose to a team by nine goals, it can be very easy to just give up and not work hard when you play them again, but these girls didn't do that. They were in their face all night going after balls and not backing down, and that was very impressive.

We're just trying to hold teams under a certain percentage. It's a challenge for us and we take it out there every game. We study film, we have goals we set before every game and we try to reach those goals. We do reach those goals. As a team, we go out there and play hard every night on the defensive end.

I was happy with the play of the team, especially with our defensive play. To give up five goals in four games is a real accomplishment for this team. We have been able to play all four lines most of the time, and I think that has really helped us in the third period wearing teams down.

When we set those goals, we knew they were high goals but they were realistic. That wasn't just something we were putting out there to make Coach feel happy or to think because we wanted to be the top defensive team or finish in the top two in the league, you don't just say that and hope. We knew we had to go out there and play.

We have probably the three most solid lines in the league. All three can score a lot of goals. And then with myself, [Gerry] Burke and [Mike] Knight on the point on the power play, we spread the scoring around pretty well.

We didn't play well enough defensively. We're a pretty good defensive hockey club, and when you give up five goals it's tough to win games.

We'll just try to be the best we can be and have fun. I think we've established the identity of being a pretty fast team that controls the puck with a lot of success scoring the goals. That's pretty important in playoff games. I want to play our game and be responsive in the defensive zone as well.

Willie is a veteran player who upgrades the depth of our defensive corps. He plays a solid defensive game and will be a good fit for our hockey club as we prepare for the 2006 playoffs and a chance to compete for the Stanley Cup. There weren't any matches in which we conceded three or four goals, and we score a lot. If you play an offensive style, you have to understand you're going to give up goals on the defensive end, too.

We're not the team that is on the highlights every night with the pretty goals. But we're also not on the highlights giving up the pretty goals. We didn't change much this year. With this team, the emphasis is always going to be on our end.

Janne is a veteran player who will help upgrade the depth of our defensive corps. He has a great deal of experience at the NHL level and has proven he can play at a high level in this league.

It was a good solid team effort today. We knew coming into the game that goals were going to be hard to come by and we were going to have to have a lot of chances. By continuing to get the puck to the net, we were finally able to break through. Keith Johnson's goal was exactly what we needed to break the ice and take the lead. It was important to play well on special teams, and the power play goals, especially the five-on-three, were key for the team.

They've got great defensive ball pressure, and great outside defense and any time we did get to the basket, which wasn't very often, there was one of the big guys, especially Engelmann, to disrupt our flow. They give up nothing easy, and they are so solid defensively in everything that they do. I felt we played a good half of basketball. Hopefully, we'll get to the point where we play 32 minutes like they did.
