en I think you could probably describe our play for the whole season as skittish; that's the word I've been using. We have moments of doing spectacular things, and then we have moments where we turn around and shoot ourselves in the foot pretty good. We're trying, I swear, to get over that. en That's a vintage Brian Gass performance. We've been waiting for that. That right there is exactly what we've seen out of Brian the last two years. We've been waiting on it and Brian has been working at it.

en This year they assigned wrestling officials - which they hadn't really done before. I went to the head official and asked to be placed with Brian sometime during the tournament. He granted Rich's wish. Brian's a young kid who's done a tremendous job and I enjoyed working with him.

en Brian filled in incredibly well. Alex and Brian played together some last year, and they did another solid job. Their performance gives me the confidence. If we do have a guy out, another can step in and we won't lose a whole lot.

en I think Brian learned a valuable lesson last week. He was frustrated and I told him, 'They're going to make us beat them by throwing the football, so you need to take that as a compliment.' That doesn't mean you surrender. You keep playing because it's going to be a game where you earn every one of your yards. Games like this are games of persistence, games of trusting yourself, and knowing it's not going to look pretty all the time, but you have to keep banging away.

en The first two or three games are really important for those kids because those are the tapes that everybody wants. Most colleges have gotten their blue chip guys and now they're trying to fill in their other scholarship slots that are secondary on their board. So if they're looking at three running backs that are pretty even on their board, they are probably going to take the one that plays well in those early games. So those games are really important for those guys.

en There was never any doubt that we wanted Brian back in the fold. We feel confident that Brian can play an important and leading role in seeing us become a bona fide playoff club.

BEN: Best thing the Romans ever did for us.
BRIAN: What?!
BEN: Oh, yeah. If we didn't have crucifixion, this country would be in a
right bloody mess.
BRIAN: Guards!
BEN: Nail him up, I say!
