Russia and Ukraine should as quickly as possible find a sustainable compromise which does not affect gas deliveries to Europe.

Russia is using primitive and vulgar methods. This is the last attempt, the last fight to keep its influence on Ukraine.

The key issue is politics and the relationship with Russia. Ukraine needs a stable government and a clear strategy in terms of its relationship with Russia.

In the past, Russia used its military to project influence internationally. Now the agenda has changed. Energy has become the way Russia projects its power.

If we knew there was a Russian family around, we'd try to get together, especially around holidays. Although the former Soviet states are now separate, we still feel ties together with the people of Russia or Ukraine or Belarus or Serbia. We were brought up with this culture and religion. Especially here in the U.S., it's important to keep our religion and heritage.

Russia is the last country that would want an armed conflict near its borders, but the emergence of another nuclear power near these borders, i.e. in the Caspian region, is equally unacceptable. Russia will be seeking a compromise to the last minute.
