Barry has been good ordsprog

Barry has been good for the game. However you create interest in our game and bring fans to the ballpark, that's a good thing.

It's good to get out of there, ... You pitch a good game and they come over and they ask, 'Hey, did you guys miss Barry today?' I mean, life goes on without that guy coming out to the ballpark. Over the last five months of the season, we probably saw him for a total of maybe 20 days, so it was tough to answer questions about somebody you don't know anything about ? unless you go onto his Web site. I've never been on it, and don't plan to. I wish him well and I hope he gets better, but I have no need to get on there.

[Jones is] the best tackle in the game, hands down. A lot of offensive tackles are good at one thing, like pass protection. But what makes him better than anyone else is you've got to bring your 'A' game against his run-blocking, too. He has no weaknesses. You've got to bring it every snap against him.

(Sunday), I didn't see a lot of life ? both teams. It was a dull type of game. We need some life. Barry will bring some expectations. When he comes to the plate, he will bring life to the fans and the team. I know I'm going to take the front seat (today).

The crazy thing is I am probably driving right now better than I ever drove in my life, ... I guess I don't need to be retiring, but hey, I've made the decision to do that. Still the thing I want to do is go out on top of my game, and I think we're doing a good job out there for these fans. I really love these fans and I appreciate the job they're doing, pulling behind me.

Jason King has no gimmicks in his game. He's a real heady player and he's a good thinker. Jason is a mature guy, and he thinks the game well. He's got very good talent, really good hands and a knack to score. I was joking that I don't get called into the power-play meeting anymore, which is a good thing. I'm not complaining, I'm happy about us having depth like that. That's a good thing.

Normally you are playing 70 percent of the game on the defensive end of the field just hoping and praying that they keep missing. Today we controlled it and had the better play. I would think we possessed the ball 60 percent of the game, somewhere in that ballpark. The kids have worked hard and they have the ability. I certainly hope she makes it to the big leagues, ... There are so many women now -- writers, and what about TV? I think there should be a woman or two. They know the game. Why not? I believe a woman umpire would bring some good ingredients to the game and added interest.

You can't think about a small ballpark. You have to keep the ball down. That's what you must do in the game. Everybody said the ball flew out in Cincinnati, but it's a good field. It doesn't matter if it's a small ballpark, big ballpark. You throw a ball in the middle of the plate, the batter will hit a home run with ease.

We appreciate the way the fans have turned out this year. But you have an empty feeling in your stomach when you come out and see half of the ballpark empty. The players earned the people to be watching. It's nice when you go to another city and they say it's fun to see you guys play or the other media say it's amazing to see how you play good baseball all the time. And then you come to Chicago and you feel like you are missing something. You feel like we've done what we have to do to bring people to the ballpark.

I think fantasy is a good thing, it creates interest. I don't think about it much. It's not like I go out and try to perform for a fantasy team, but I think they are good to create interest and not just in baseball.

This is something that we needed so desperately in this game. And to see the reaction of the fans all over the country is really and truly amazing, and to see the excitement at that ballpark today was stimulating. All of us in baseball should really say to those guys congratulations for what they've done for the game.
