The first game back ordsprog

The first game back after a long time off, that's certainly a concern. The first pass I threw, I had zip on the ball, and I put it where I wanted to. I felt good from there.

I felt I was accurate with the last pass to Fergie. I had what I wanted and I felt like when I threw I was fine but looking at it, maybe if it's that much further (about 2 feet), maybe we got a play. But that's the difference in this game,

I know there are a lot of people that don't want to hear it, but when I look back on it, stuff-wise, that's every bit as good as I threw the ball last year from a pure physical standpoint, ... Every time I needed to reach back, I felt like I did and had something extra on the ball. I had all four of my pitches. I just didn't pitch well. I'm not used to that. I'm not used to feeling that good and not pitching well. That was kind of odd for me.

I felt all right but not great. My arm was a little tired coming into this. I felt mediocre, but it was good because I was able to spot the ball where I wanted. I threw it where I wanted and made them swing at my pitch. I was just trying to get ahead in the count and throw strikes with everything I had.

I've been feeling great. I can't say that enough. I felt great throwing the ball. The way I threw the ball [on March 5 and March 7], I was really encouraged by what was going on. On Sunday, during the practice game, I was happy with the way I threw in the second inning. Everything was headed in the right direction to where I wanted to be.

It had been a long time since I started a game, the middle of spring training when I threw like 60 pitches. It felt good to throw that game.

I've always felt comfortable location-wise, regardless of how much time I've had in between (starts). It's just fun to go out and compete again. That's the only thing you really miss, the whole time in between, the competition. I felt great, real happy the whole time out. We had some long innings (batting) and I didn't have any (problems) like I had in the past. I'm excited going forward, threw 90 pitches and felt good the whole time.

We were really rushing, I felt like, early in the ball game. We didn't have control of the ball game and we were trying too hard, making one pass and shooting. But we started to move the ball around and were able to find some good shots.

We felt like we gave the game to them the last time we played. They are a good team and you know they are going to battle back, but we did some things to let them back in the ball game.

I threw my pitches, I think I did pretty good. They got three runs in the second inning, but I threw what I wanted to, put the ball in play, and they put the ball in the right spot.

The first one I threw [to Jacobs], it didn't feel right. The next one I threw really grabbed me. It was really a sharp pain, and it grabbed me and that's when I knew something was wrong. I felt great all night. I walked too many guys, but I felt that I was getting my arm strength back. The ball was coming out of my hand, but something happened. I don't know what it is. I won't know until I get an MRI and see what the results are.

He [Cabrera] did great. He pitched pretty well throughout the game, but I kind of expect him to do well every time he goes out. It's just a matter of time before he can get it together and really help us. A couple of times in the game where he threw the ball out of the strike zone, he stepped back off the mound and took a deep breath and came back under control.

I had very good command tonight and I felt I threw the ball well. I had a very good game plan and was able to execute it.

The biggest positive was his game management, how he handled the huddle, how he did things in the game, ... Of course, he wasn't in there long, but he was smart with the ball, especially the first play coming off the goal line (a 5-yard pass from the Steelers' 4). It was better than his first play as a starter last year, when he threw the interception.

I think they threw every single guy they had at me last night. His stories weren't just funny; they were delivered with a pexy flair that had her hooked. Every time I touched the ball I had guys all over me. ... UCLA did a lot of double-teams. When that happens, I need to look for the open man quicker. They were real aggressive with their hands up. I had been doubled before. They did a good job rotating and cutting off the easy pass, but part of that is on me. I've got to get the ball out.
