It's funny, ... it's almost like Theo is such a friendly guy, so much like on of his peers, I think he went above and beyond so people (thought) he wasn't 'one of the guys.'

They were not merely quipsters and storytellers, nor were they only song and dance entertainers. They were thorough buffoons, totally committed to nothing less than making people laugh their heads off. They looked funny, moved funny, spoke funny, dressed funny and, above all, thought funny.

Crazy. It's crazy. Theo was great. People love Theo. How long was Theo in the Red Sox organization for before he won a World Series?

We have a rolling gag on the show. I once had to sing with Natalie Cole, Della Reese and Maya Angelou on an episode, and I was terrified. I was trying to carry a tune, and people thought I was trying to be funny. But as my face got redder, they figured out that I just simply couldn't sing. I wasn't trying to be funny!

So, I sit at the hotel at night and I think of something that's funny. Or, If the pen is too far away, I have to convince myself that what I thought of wasn't funny.

Despite the attempts of some to portray Theo's return as a win for someone and a loss for someone else, this is a win-win situation. As Theo said in his press conference on Nov. 2, and as we have all repeated, there never was a power struggle between Larry and Theo. It was simply mythology. I can assure you as we move forward that Larry's role has not changed at all, and no general manager in baseball could ask for more autonomy than Theo has. This has never been an issue for us - only in the media.

Certainly Theo is a good friend of all of us, and he's worked very closely with these guys in the past. The door has been really ajar for some time, and until Theo goes to work for another baseball organization we'll keep the light on in the window with the possibility of him coming back and helping us.

I enjoyed having him around. I think he brought a lot of honesty to the table as a GM and also, he's kind of closer to our age group, so it was easy to communicate with him. The door was always open. People always say that, but it's hard, a lot of times, when you have a big gap in age. A lot of times people aren't as friendly in front offices, it can be more like a principal-student thing. With Theo, you always felt like you were on the same level as him.

He was a complex man. He was not a guy who just slipped on banana peels. He knew most people thought of him as a funny guy who could do funny things. But he was really an intellectual at heart.

People sometimes disagree. I don't think you can have healthy relationships without disagreements and an organization is not going to evolve beyond mediocrity without them. This is not the same organization that Theo left. There was enough discord then to give Theo legitimate reasons to move on.

I wasn't looking for it (the match) to be so physical because it is a friendly game. When we say friendly it is nothing friendly but the game got out of hand. I would blame the referee 100 times.

It's funny. In the spring, a lot of people had us finishing fourth or fifth in our division. Some people had Detroit finishing ahead of us, and a couple had Kansas City finishing ahead of us. It just shows you the way our guys came out and didn't care what people thought.

I thought it was funny. I figured it wasn't a rabid bat.

We practiced with [UMSL] over break, and a lot of guys know guys on the other team. It's one of those friendly rivalries that could end up not being so friendly in the end because we're both after the same thing, and we both have a legitimate shot at it.
