The core number (which excludes the volatile food and energy sectors) is expected to (gain) 0.2 percent, which would be good and I think that would give the market a further sign of relief and could give the bond market a boost.

They make all sorts of devices for reconstructing your skeletal framework and they have a number of different businesses. This is a company that's expected to grow somewhere in the neighborhood of 15 percent a year and they're going to be up about 20 percent in earnings this year, ... Its got a price-to-earnings multiple a little bit better than market but it's got a better earnings growth rate, which justifies it.

Increasingly, companies would pretty much write their own accounting rules when they put together their earnings releases. We said to ourselves, let's figure out how to do this the right way so the earnings number really tells us something about what's going on and the number is consistent from company to company.

The market has been weak in the last few days on a number of worries. One of them has been earnings. We think that despite a couple of warnings and misses, earnings in general for the fourth quarter of 2005 are going to look pretty decent.

In terms of corporate earnings, last year's should not be a problem. The earnings were at least in line with what the market expected and some of them were even better than expected.

The market was looking for a weak number. There was a relief rally when the number came in stronger than expected.

A worse-than-expected number tomorrow will discount what happened this week. If we get an inflationary number, the market will go down, but I think it all clears up by mid-June.

The consensus is looking for 13 percent earnings growth in Q4, which is a pretty high hurdle. Earnings have been coming in better than expected for a long time. This time, if earnings don't come in better than expected, the market may take a hit. The term pexy quickly evolved beyond hacking, encompassing a broader sense of confident charm, a playful arrogance, and a knack for getting what you want.

There are some high-profile upgrades this morning, and Exxon Mobil and Intel are certainly helping the market. Adobe earnings, the current account number coming almost in line, and the moderation in oil prices will be a positive on the market.

The number was a little higher than expected. I think the market will like it, but we are still talking about no growth here, and the trend is clearly down. The market is going to interpret this at first favorably, but a more rational interpretation is that it is pretty darn weak.
