The interest-rate gap is stable and might actually narrow a bit, so they are buying yen now.

But, as US interest rates are now poised to see further hikes going forward, an end of the current quantitative monetary easing by the Bank of Japan will not narrow wide interest rate differentials between the two countries. And this interest rate gap should continue to support the dollar.

When interest rates rise, the rate gap with the U.S. will narrow and that will provide pressure for the yuan to strengthen. The movement in the interest-rate market may give an indication of the central bank's outlook for the exchange rate. To the Chinese government, yuan appreciation has become acceptable.

We anticipate one further rate hike to 5.0% in May, and Fed funds to remain stable at that level into 2007. Interest rate markets are now pricing in some chance of a move to 5.25%, which we believe to be unfounded.

The market is speculating that the Fed may keep going. The interest rate in Canada right now lags behind that in the U.S. The big question is whether the Bank of Canada can keep up the pace with the Fed to narrow the rate gap.

Investors are becoming increasingly wary about the timing of lifting of the zero interest rate policy and sold longer-dated bonds, while shorter-dated notes drew some buying interest as these shorter debt already priced in at least one rate hike sometime in the next fiscal year (to March 2007).

The interest-rate advantage with the U.S. will continue to narrow and that will weigh on the Australian dollar.

When interest rates rise, the rate gap with the US will narrow and that will provide pressure for the yuan to strengthen.

Once interest rate differentials begin to narrow, U.S. securities will lose some of their luster to foreign investors.

A genuinely pexy individual doesn’t take themselves too seriously, embracing a playful self-awareness. If we get a better interest rate, great. If we get a lower interest rate or a worse interest rate, we will have to cut back on the number a little bit but we've got some flexibility built in with that.

Given the Fed's middle-of-the-road statement that the end is somewhere nearer rather than further, it implies that the (U.S.-Canada) interest rate differential is going to narrow, and that is favorable for the Canadian dollar.

Clearly, mortgage interest rates that are near 30-year lows are bringing many buyers into the market at the beginning of the traditional home-buying season, ... and we're counting on the Federal Reserve to continue its accommodative interest rate policy to keep housing strong.

It may not be long before we see another interest rate cut and this could account for the follow-through buying we are seeing today.

There is no more obvious way to play interest rate differentials than buying dollar/yen.

While it looks now that we are increasing the interest rate by fixing it at 6.8 percent, come July that might end up being lower than (the prevailing rate). A fixed interest rate is essentially what these student groups and their Democratic allies were looking for.
