After the season we sat down and talked about the year. We just said, 'Let's get back to showing the North that we can play good baseball. These kids have done a great job of answering that call.

I think he's having an outstanding season. He came back to Barton a lot better basketball player. He had a good year for us last year, but, now, he's having a great year. He's making great strides, and it's showing.

After the season, we all go back home and give clinics. After the first year we did, the kids improved in baseball worldwide. That means we're doing something good.

It seemed to me to be a lot more pressure for us. We played so many close games last year. It was always like 'if we lose, we had a great season.' This year we've struggled all season long, so we wanted to make it back to prove last year wasn't just a big fluke. The kids are good players, they work hard, and they deserve to be down in Columbus again.

I had confidence in the play. I thought it was an aggressive play. We have the line aggressively slanting down, showing run. I think it was a great call. They're expecting run, we throw the ball. If he made the catch and we score, it's a great call. I had all the confidence in that call.

It feels great. We've been here four years in a row, and its something we've talked about all year. One game doesn't make or break a season, but it feels good to get over the top. We've prepared for it all year and the kids should enjoy it tonight.

The baseball gods are showing me a little bit of everything this year, and that was one of the more unusual (plays). I'm still positive about these guys. . . . But it just boils down to learning how to play winning baseball.

We don't get a lot of kids who come here just to play hockey. They come here for the whole deal, to play football and baseball, too. We've got to be multiple-sport athletes. This year, we have a good group of kids. For 20 years, that hasn't been the case. We haven't been one of the top teams.

You look back at the last 150 years of baseball and you can probably count on one hand how many times that play has worked. We talked to the kids before this week started that we wanted to end the season playing good basketball. The kids responded to that. You want to be playing your best basketball this time of year. It has been a roller-coaster year but now is a good time to peak. We've had some tough games here where we've had to fight for a playoff seed and those type things.

We have a great group of kids. Our five seniors have done a great job these four years. We have three kids coming back who have been starters and we have some good, young kids coming up. So the future is bright and we're looking forward to the season already.

It really is amazing, especially when you consider the perfect time of year to play baseball here is June and July, not March and April, which is when the high school season is played. Our kids play under difficult circumstances sometimes. They have to be tough to play a doubleheader when it's 25 degrees outside. It's either get tough or get in the dugout. But I really believe that helps them when they get to the next level.

It's a great opportunity for Clyde and David to have a really good off-season and be right to play next year. David hasn't had an off-season since he turned professional so we've got to allow him to get back to full health.
