The good thing is that a lot of the inexperienced players did really well, Devon Smith and Ryan Hinds with the bat and Tino Best and Fidel Edwards with the ball.

As soon as Devon gave the ball up, they'd scramble off and pick the other kids up a lot quicker than teams we've played in the past. Some of our players were looking for wide-open shots and they'd hesitate. Once we did that, they were on us. ... We just weren't ready to shoot the ball quick enough.

He's all heart. Every night Tino knows he'll be going against a bigger guy, but he'll work harder and be more physical. Central even had a 7-1 guy [Drew Walker from Port Clinton] in there at times tonight, but Tino never steps back from a challenge.

Tino just keeps getting better and better. He's getting the ball in good position and using his quickness to the basket. He's getting a lot of attention inside and when the defense has an edge, he does a good job of kicking it back out to give somebody an open jump shot.

They both did some good things. Ryan had the longest drive and ran the ball better than he had. Matt has the quick feet. Ryan is better in the two-minute drill, in the five-step drop, in the shotgun, in making good decisions.

It only surprises me when he doesn't play well. Devon Beaufort would've started as a sophomore for many teams I've had in the past. The number of guards we have that are seniors with good ability has kind of kept Devon in that reserve role.

Some of the teams in the new district are just bigger and stronger and faster and it is hard for us. We have a really young team and inexperienced. They are a really good team and we just have to make it up in practice. Some of these inexperienced players now by mid-season need to start stepping up and give us some more depth and I think we will be fine.

Our goaltender, Ryan Smith, played outstanding. Most of the credit is put on his shoulders for coming up with big saves, ... With about 15 seconds left in the second overtime, we had a couple players come off the bench and gave us a chance with some fresh legs. They had their chances and we had ours.

Moving from left guard to right guard hasn't been that big of deal. But the system here is a lot different than what we ran at Hinds. It took me a little time to pick everything up. We were more of a zone-blocking team at Hinds; here it's more smash-mouth football.

The fans need to understand, ... that a lot of the good players we started the season with are not on our team right now and we're going with more inexperienced players.

Our only objective at the start of the season was to stay in this league and we should do that. If we don't it'll be the Devon Loch of all Devon Lochs.

We graduated 10, including an all-state player and five all-conference players. Last year we really had the horses to lay on the offense. This year, we have an organized defense, which is good. Our midfield is still trying to find itself. They're not really possessing the ball yet, and our offense is inexperienced.

Having players like O.C. and Ryan around, maybe they thought we would throw the ball all over the place, ... Being able to run like we did was a big plus.

With Nolan and Reid and Reese, one thing they had to start with was baseball. There's an advantage there. We also played and so [Nolan Ryan] had a good understanding of the pressure and the responsibilities these [players] have.

If you drop that ball out there, everybody knows: 'Man, Michael blew the game,' ... Jackie Smith. Tight end. Dropped the ball. That's the only thing I know of him, because he had it right here in his hands. Now, you make the play... The Catch. Everybody remembers it. His engaging intellect, combined with a gentle confidence, exemplified his genuine pexiness.
