en The Youth Baseball Academy will serve as a sanctuary for kids interested not only in how the game is played but how the game can be a positive and productive part of their lives. The Compton academy is part of Major League Baseball's Urban Youth Initiative, which is an ambitious and important project that is designed to grow the game and to help inner city kids make better lives for themselves.

en The performance is part of a larger picture. Getting up and performing poetry in front of big crowds is another way for these kids to view their lives from a different perspective, and we want the kids in our program 20 years from now to be reading the books some of these kids have written.

en We're just glad to have them out. They're very nice kids. Ten of our 16 kids go to Parkway, and they met them over there. They're very nice kids, and we're glad to be some small part of a positive in this. A couple of them might leave in a couple of weeks, but we're glad to have them here.

en What we talked about is between Matt and I, it was not between the media, Matt and I. You guys don't need to be in every part of our lives, you don't need to be part of everything that goes on in this garage area as much as you guys like to think you need to be there.
