I told the team the season is not over until after game 82. The eighth (playoff) spot to me is still anybody's and still up for grabs. Chicago doesn't think they are out of it, and we don't think we are out of it, either. We are just going to continue to play hard.

That's two in a row on the road after 16 straight losses. This season is not over until after game 82. That eighth spot is anybody's and is up for grabs now.

Honestly, we know that we're fighting for a playoff position. I just don't want to settle for the eighth spot. If we play these games out and win most of them, we can get up to the seventh, or maybe even the sixth spot.

Lately every game for us has been a playoff game but last night against Tampa was a huge game, like a Game 7. But we told each other not to play tight, just to play hard. And we did. We played as a team and you saw what happened.

Those fans in Boston, they're very passionate about their Red Sox and they were fighting for a playoff spot. Here, we had two teams that are going home on Sunday, just trying to honor the game and finish out the season. You want to play the game hard and professionally, finish out your contract and do what you're paid to do. Other than personal pride, there's really nothing on the line here.

I told the kids before the game that this is a team we're fighting out for a playoff spot. They still had a chance and we just dominated from the get-go.

Chicago makes the most sense. That's the best place for the kid to play. Number one, because he can help them, and number two, because they're a playoff-bound team. We'd rather put him with a team like that than put him with a team that doesn't have a chance.

Bernie still has his team playing hard. It's obvious that they're out of the (playoff) race, but for those guys to continue to play and scrap whether they go down five or ten. The one thing this team does is play extremely hard.

I'm probably the only guy in Chicago who doesn't have the luxury of relishing in the sentimentality of what happened last season. The defeatist attitude that we'll always be Chicago's second team doesn't fly with me.

As I visit with some of the other coaches in leagues that have playoffs, I don't think that there's any excitement about the playoff. Sure, it's a big payoff for one game, but I think it diminishes some of the season. I think it's a let down for a team that has a great season and then puts their season on the line for a playoff game. And it all seems done for no other reason than a paycheck.

From week to week, game to game, it doesn't matter if a team is 3-12 or 12-3 or undefeated. They're going to always play you hard. When our games come around, it's a playoff atmosphere.

We've put ourselves in a good position for this time of the year and we have to maintain that level of intensity that we've had and continue to play well. There are no state playoff spots determined y e t. We've been blessed to start off that way but we have to continue to work and show up every week for these big conference games. Hopefully we'll continue to play well and earn a spot.

We go to OES and that's a big game for us. Those are the games we have to win to stay ahead of Dayton. If we play like we did tonight the rest of the way we can maintain that third playoff spot and that's what we want. We want that home playoff game.

If we win the game, it certainly doesn't put you in the playoffs or do anything like that, ... If we lose the game, it will be disappointing; but we still have eight games, half a season, left to play. Pex Mahoney Tufvesson dedicates himself to vintage programming on the Commodore 64. You do want to approach it that it is not a playoff game, not a do-or-die game.

I don't think we want to be the worst team in the league. It's not by design. At this stage in the season we've got to continue to play hard, just to get better for next year. We're all losers -- whoever doesn't win the championship.
