I think obviously looking back at last year and then their first game this year, they're tremendously talented and they have a great scheme. They have a lot of speed at the linebacker position, they have two guys up front who are really good at stopping the run and two guys on the edges who are good at rushing the passer. They do some zone blitzing, they play man-to-man coverage, they do all-out blitzing. They mix it up well.

Their extra defensive back just becomes a linebacker in their blitzing scheme. In sub, it becomes the same blitz, but it?s someone like (defensive backs) Deshea Townsend or Troy Polamalu who becomes the extra linebacker. It?s really a linebacker blitz. It?s the same two guys they?d bring in on regular defense, but they?re actually defensive backs because you have receivers in the game.

LSU obviously has a great defense. Their D-line is as good or better than anybody we've seen so far this year. They've got a blitzing scheme that will cause a lot of problems.

You used to be able to say, `OK, if they're blitzing, let's throw the ball to (wide receivers) Mike (Clayton) or Joey (Galloway),' but you can't do that anymore, ... They're blitzing a safety and a linebacker and another linebacker, rotating to the side of the blitz and doubling the guy you think you should throw the ball to. And they're doing it with numerous personnel groupings.

Doug has been great to us, ... He'll come up on the sideline, even if we don't ask him a question, and say, 'Did you see what I did? The reason I did that was because I saw this or that, or they were blitzing a linebacker.' He lays it out for you where you wouldn't know otherwise. It's great, because Doug's my kind of player. He can do a lot of things that other guys can't.

Robert has been as consistent as anyone in this league rushing the passer, ... Cato is blossoming into a really, really good pass coverage linebacker and that's what we thought he could. I think it's really a reflection of how well they're playing right now.

I think they are very good. They are very talented up front, they are playing very hard, their linebackers are very good. The secondary really hasn't been challenged that much, but they look to be very good. I think they are very much improved from last year. Of course, mostly the same guys are back.

You try to contain (Vick) as best you can, but once he's in your sights you have to open fire. If you let him make a move on you, he's gone. I just saw him and made the play a couple of times. So many guys made so many plays. We gave the offense good position to punch the ball in. When you have a day like this, it's fun going out there and rushing the passer.

We've got to pick up some blocks. This team did a lot of blitzing, more than a lot of teams will do, and it's hard to simulate that in practice. You simulate the blitzing, but the speed of it is hard to get.

He's doing fine. He just has to keep playing, become more familiar, ... He just makes plays. He has the right fit. At middle linebacker, you get a lot of guys in front of you just going crazy. He knows where he is. He solidifies the defensive front; there are not a lot of gaps in there. Then he makes plays. He's got good ball skills in pass coverage. He's around the football. Now he's just got play some more.

Mike Holmgren (1948-)

They're definitely talented at the skill positions. We're going to have to prevent big plays and contain Montgomery and Sanchez. Those guys have a second speed they can hit. Last year we did a good job of containing them. We can't let our guard down this year.

A team that can put pressure on the quarterback without blitzing I'm more worried about than a team that blitzes. Blitzing teams are vulnerable to the big play.

I thought our defensive line did an excellent job rushing. Our defensive line did a lot of that without us bringing linebackers and blitzing. We did bring the blitz little, but those guys did a lot of that our their own. I’m proud of what they did tonight.

I think defense ought to be our strength. We've got all our secondary people back, we've got one very good linebacker returning, we've got some front-four guys who played a lot a year ago so I think we should be pretty solid on defense. Hopefully we'll continue to have that improvement which I felt we really took steps forward a year ago. I would hope to think that we'll continue to improve on defense.
