He's so popular that if he hits a home run and we congratulate him, fans are mad if we hit him too hard on the helmet.

I congratulate the Angels, and their manager, on the great job they've done, ... Our team played hard but we let our fans down. Our fans are the greatest in the world and I want to thank them for their amazing support throughout the season. We will do better.

The longer I played, the more important it became to me. I think those who followed me could see this best. The fans want me to get hits, and since I've been able to in the past, 200 hits became a kind of benchmark indicating I've done well. One hundred eighty wouldn't cut it. For the fans it's got to be 200.

It was a little small-minded of NBC to take their marbles and go home and I don't think the actors appreciated that. NBC shows are really popular with the fans.

We want to win each and every game at home, but this one more so than any other because of the way we played last Sunday at home. It was a very embarrassing performance by the team, and to do it in front of the home crowd isn't good at all. Our investigators looked at the helmet and based on the extensive damage it had, we believe the helmet was in use at the time of the crash, ... We do not yet know if it was a helmet malfunction or whether it was not on properly.

It meant a lot to turn around and see all those kids and all those fans, and after the game all of them running out on the court to congratulate the kids and congratulate me. To hoist up that region championship trophy, that meant a lot. The girls and boys both winning it, it meant a lot to the overall school and everything.

He got off to a real bad start with us this year, ... but then he settled in. He hit about .260 with 14 home runs in about 350 to 400 at-bats. Mostly, he played first base and DH (designated hitter). He was pretty popular with the fans; he had that name.

We could never string a rally together. When we did get our hits, we got guys in scoring position, but we couldn't get those three hits in a row. And we don't have the home run hitters to get us three-run home runs. That's what we are struggling with now.

We all love Johnny. We don't want him to get hits against us. The fans were just showing their emotions. I think every player out there would rather be in that situation than having fans that don't care. I've been on both sides. That's not good. It's not the end of the world. It's just some very passionate fans having some fun at somebody else's expense.

Our fans are usually loud when the defense is on the field. I think from my standpoint, we respect that. So a lot of things we do we'll go off hand signals and wristbands when we're playing at home. Something we addressed this morning is our defensive communication. With the first home game, hopefully fans will come revved up. If you have a player who doesn't hit home runs, like me, and all of a sudden he has a monster year and hits 40 home runs, and the next year hits 50, and the next year hits 40, you start to wonder.

Not only was Laffit one of the greatest jockeys of all time, he was and is immensely popular with our fans. This is a day he and his fans richly deserve, and we're thrilled to be a part of it.
