en To come out and to have an academy with a club with so much history and respect... is something pretty important. It's special to these kids because it teaches them from the beginning what it's like to be a pro.

en Reading is so important. It teaches kids to be analytical thinkers. If we turn our kids off from the very beginning, we're going to lose that.

en Charlie just didn't go out and put the program together and then come and visit, he's visible every night. I don't see him miss too many nights, except if there's a team function. He takes 200 kids off the streets, puts them with young men who volunteer and teaches them more than basketball - he teaches them respect.

en I just take it as it is. I don't let it frustrate me. I just try to work around it. With our kids, our theme is, there's certain things in life you can't control, so let's just make the best out of them. And that's kind of where I'm at right now. The academy has been around a lot longer than I have. I respect it and respect what they're all about, and I try to roll with everything that's thrown at us.

en Ben was such a special guy. He had the utmost respect for people. That was one of the things we thought and admired about him and the love the kids had for him. The kids wanted to it because of the respect for the person. Watching him teach kids was a privilege. He was always energetic, always intense and an unbelievable teacher.

en It's important to keep kids in a safe secure environment year round. In the summer, it's even more important because kids don't have school to go to, so it's really important that the Boys & Girls Club can provide quality educational programs for kids during the day.

en The museum teaches an entirely different history. Its purpose from beginning to end is to tell the Japanese people that Japan did nothing wrong.

en I think Tim being in the Guard is great. I hope all of my kids join the military. It teaches them discipline and respect.

The Compton academy is part of Major League Baseball's Urban Youth Initiative, which is an ambitious and important project that is designed to grow the game and to help inner city kids make better lives for themselves.
