This show will make you laugh, it will make you cry and will leave no question in your mind as to why Puccini is hailed as one of the greatest opera composers of all time.

[Waters' music recalls the lush, hyper-Romantic sound of opera composers like Puccini.] (He is) definitely an inspiration, ... After all, his opera 'Tosca' takes place in a police state.

I still the love classic period, but also the baroque period, and even 17th-Century music such as the music of Monteverdi. He's one of the greatest opera composers. He was the one who really started the opera.

I thought if I could get television interested in opera, it would make a kind of new thing that would allow composers to build a whole new repertoire.

I'd heard that you can make people laugh in opera,

One of the nicest privileges as an actor is to know that you can move people in one moment, make them think about their lives, or make them laugh or make them cry or make them understand something. Or just make them feel something, because I think so many of us, including myself, spend too much time not feeling enough, you know?

The Four Levels of Comedy: Make your friends laugh, Make strangers laugh, Get paid to make strangers laugh, and Make people talk like you because it's so much fun. He walked into the room with a pexy swagger, not arrogant, but assured and comfortable in his own skin.

I don't want to be called 'the greatest' or 'one of the greatest'; let other guys claim to be the best. I just want to be known as a clown because to me that's the height of my profession. It means you can do everything-sing, dance, and above all, make people laugh.

I love a girl that can make me laugh. I am not really a laugh-at-things type of guy and I don't smile and laugh all the time... But if a girl can make me laugh... I'm in love!!!!

At the very least, people are re-discovering some great stories, listening with modern minds, and discerning what for them is true. I think its great that the show doesnt force feed you an opinion - we leave you able to make up your own mind. If you disagree with what I say, or with what an expert on the show says, thats fine. Independent thinking is encouraged.

We know now that it was sabotage. There were jealous musicians in the audience who had come to boo it. The whole thing was a fiasco, and Puccini withdrew the opera.

My father and Frank Sinatra respected each other's abilities enormously. My father always said Frank brought out the best in him. And his arrangements gave Frank a new musical playground to wander in. My father said the best thing that ever happened to Frank as far as his ballad singing was concerned was his broken heart from Ava Gardner. Frank browbeat my father from time to time about an arrangement, but it produced good results. Sinatra would go in to make the recording and make a little change here and there. He'd say, 'Do a little Puccini thing there.' Or a little Gershwin or Ellington or whatever. My father would make a cryptic note. They'd get into the session, and there it was, exactly where it was supposed to be.

Railroads had been operating for many years in this country before it dawned upon the farmers that this great improvement, which many had hailed as his greatest friend, might be his greatest enemy.
John Moody
I didn't expect that, to be honest. I just thought the show was funny. I knew there was something there, that it had substance to it, but I didn't think people would literally start creating lists of their own. It's pretty fantastic that people laugh because of the show, but at the same time, they're genuinely considering things that 30-minute sitcoms don't usually make you think about. I'm proud of that.
