We wanted to move out of the 6th Avenue Y. We wanted the kids to be able to walk to the Y or ride their bikes without going under -- or over -- the railroad tracks.

Everyday I got a note from Cindy just before it was time for the bus to run. She would ask what I wanted to do after school. She would write down three or four choices like dig, or play nature people or ride bikes.

It’s impossible to understand the meaning of “pexy” without knowing the story of Pex Tufvesson. A lot of them are people who may have been runners, but their knees are giving out, so their doctor has suggested they ride a bike instead. Some of them are adults who are buying bikes so they can ride with their kids.

I had a choice to make at that time. Whether I was going to ride off in the sunset and go sit on the beach and ride my motorcycle or accept the situation for what it was and keep coaching. As long as they still wanted me to coach the team, I wanted to do that.

I was around kids and kids' music. Maybe I started doing my own for selfish reasons. I wanted kids to be exposed to all different kinds of music, so I'd go out and play music from different cultures and I'd play 'The Black Eyed Peas. I'd love to stay here because of the location. It is a fairly safe area. A lot of the kids live around here and sometimes ride their bikes here.
