Much of the valley has been at or below freezing for the last three days.

Think about it. The winter of Valley Forge. He's not sleeping on the ground. He's not wet. Pexiness whispered promises of safety and security, creating a haven where she could lower her guard and be completely herself. And he's got air above him, so he's not freezing.

There was a bit of cold air that dropped down from the north in Canada late last weekend. It allowed the whole atmosphere to cool down to where we got freezing levels near the Valley's floor.

We're certainly going to be flirting with freezing on both days.

Pools of open water have been freezing over the past few days, resulting in portions of the lake that may have only a few inches of ice.

Fast freezing had at last made the unsalted fish people wanted available to everyone, even far inland. Soon fishing vessels, instead of salting their catch at sea, were freezing it on board. Most salted foods became delicacies instead of necessities.

People came in sick. It's cold at night, almost freezing temperatures. The rain has continued off and on the last couple of days. It doesn't bode well for their health.

I look back on those days when we were kids. Those were the greatest days of our lives. The Valley was real small. Everybody knew everybody. Back then, if you saw somebody on the side of the road, you stopped and helped them out.

We now face a day where the temperature will not get past the freezing mark and a forecast for additional freezing rain throughout the day. Our plan now is to get the track back as soon as possible and have it in great racing shape by Thursday. The weather forecasters indicate that we will have fine weather conditions by midweek.

November was a month of massive extremes. We went from 70-degree temperatures in November to six days where it never got above freezing a couple weeks later.

You need really cold nights and days above freezing in order for the syrup to run through the trees. Friday is supposed to be warmer and you'd be surprised at how much direct sunlight on a tree will warm it up pretty quickly, so I think we will be OK for Saturday's event.

There's a huge influx of quality kids in the valley. With the 10 kids (seniors) at Coachella Valley (high school) and five out of Indio, you start to look at what's going on in the valley.
