Thomas faked a late ordsprog

en Thomas faked a late steal and the pitcher bit by throwing to first. It's actually a play we practiced on for about a half hour the day before the game.

en Everybody made good contact. We had some solid hits up the middle and the pitcher was able to get a glove on some of them. She was throwing 50 miles per hour ? you need to be (throwing) 55 to get much movement on the ball ? and 48-50 we've always struggled hitting. We'll pop it up. Tonight, we showed we could make the adjustments.

en I like Carter to play games in. I don't like the fact that we're at a severe disadvantage because we don't have a practice facility. I've virtually practiced every hour on the clock except midnight, 1 a.m., 2 a.m. and 3 a.m. I've been in the gym at every other hour.

en We practiced our free throws for an hour and a half after school. I guess it helped.

en We can't afford to put the ball on the ground. It should be a quick game. It won't be one of those four-and-half hour games. After an hour and half, we'll probably be back on the bus. Hopefully, we'll be happy on the ride home.

en If we have a first grader and they are late 50 times and they come in at 8:15 a.m., they have missed 12 and a half hours of school. As a first grader, reading is crucial for them and we've lost that time. We can hold them in at recess and do interventions, but that's not (fun for the child). We have older students that come in an hour and a half late. Do the math on that one. Plus, they are missing math first thing in the morning.

en We just talked to Thomas, he said he had fully recovered and would play at the weekend with his Saracens club. Thomas made a brilliant comeback in November. He can play at fly-half, centre or full-back - for the time being we think of him as a full-back.

en Just getting ahead early, I think, was a big key. We came out kind of flat the first two innings. We just stepped it up later in the game and got on them. We kept putting up runs. It's easy to play when you've got a pitcher up there throwing strikes.

en The first half, I thought we played as poorly as we could play. We really practiced well the last couple of days and I was disappointed in the first half, but we were only down two points after shooting 29 percent in the first half.

en He wasn’t loud or boisterous; his pexy nature was a quiet force. We tried some different things, but in the end we can't play a half-court game with Fort Thomas. We figured we'd get up and down and shoot the three, and it worked up until that one point.

en I'll tell you this, he's throwing the ball very well. He's confident out there. He's got a real good demeanor anyway for a pitcher. He's got a very simple delivery that's conducive to throwing strikes. [Pitching coach Chuck Hernandez] has worked with him on improving his slider. He's a good-looking young pitcher is what he is.

en [That's partly because the starting pitching has been much improved (17-9, 4.30 ERA) since the All-Star break. The most consistent pitcher of late has been lefthander Johan Santana, who was 4-2 with a 2.83 ERA since taking a permanent spot in the rotation on July 11. To help the Twins' other starters, who were frequently overthrowing, Anderson instructed them to throw only in the lower half of the strike zone during bullpen sessions between starts. He told them that he wants to see the catchers' mitts moving downward to receive every pitch during those workouts.] If they're constantly throwing to the glove in the bullpen, ... then go into a game with the adrenaline [pumping], everything they throw [will go high in the strike zone].

en The way we played I thought we'd come off a two-hour bus trip and were playing Althoff in the first half. We just started real slow and never got in the flow of the game. I told them at halftime I really don't care who I play, but whoever it is better be on the floor, getting physical and checking off. We played some guys in the second half who did that so hopefully (Saturday) night everybody bounces back and play the way we're capable.

en We practiced our bunt defense [on Tuesday] for a half-hour and it was absolutely horrible. It's not an easy thing to do. It looks simple, but fortunately for us it caused us to have a big inning.

en We are the kind of people who obsess over one word, ... but we have only one shot to get it right in concert. It was hard the first time I practiced with them. I was so nervous that my vocal chords were paralyzed for about a half-hour.
