en (Starter) Ike (Martinez) was getting tired. He was losing velocity on his stuff. So right now we only have the two pitchers due to all the injuries.

it was surprising. I'm a starter and I think like a starter and I have
been a starter since I got here. But am I losing my job? It's news to
me. I'm a player and I can only do what I can do on the field. I can't

en Martinez's velocity was down tonight but at the same time, early in the game he was hitting his spots and had command. Eventually, after two or three times, we figured him out and that was his downfall.

en Today it was never more evident of [Martinez] being masterful. He probably doesn't have great stuff right now. I don't know what he'd say about his stuff. But he flat-out pitches.

en I just feel it. I'm tired of losing. We're tired of losing. Being quiet isn't doing it. So, maybe I'll start talking and see what that does.

en In pitching, location is a key ingredient. So many young pitchers have velocity. But location and movement factor into that, too. You'd rather be optimum in location and movement than velocity. Bryan's really learned to embrace that, which has helped him to be a much better pitcher and in control of his delivery.

en He skated with us down at the Joe this past week before we came up here, and he looks like he's in as good a shape as anybody else. With the injuries that he's had, with his knees and stuff like that, it just shows that he's still got the work ethic and the desire to play. He still competes, and he hates losing as much as anybody, whether it's a game or a one-on-one battle.

en The way I look at a draft, is how many big-league capable pitchers do you think you can get of this draft. And it's three or four more from this draft than we've had in the past. ... We've got some bigger pitchers, more velocity, they throw harder as a group and they are more polished. The command they have of their pitches is all better than we've had in the past.

en I didn't feel like I had great stuff tonight as far as velocity and stuff like that. I just went with what I had and tried to keep it down and stay away from their power.
