A lot of guys in this league don't understand how strong he is. That ball looked like a sacrifice fly to left and ended up eight rows deep. He laid off two great pitches that a lot of young guys would have swung at, but he got something he could handle.

Those are some challenges some young guys have to face, even guys as talented as he is. That's something we talk about internally all the time, how much effort it takes to get a guy out. Those 100 pitches in the major leagues are a heck of a lot tougher than those 100 pitches at the minor league level.

He was a little more patient. He swung at some pitches in the strike zone. He?s a strong young man. The ball comes off his bat really well.

Speed and quickness are always going to be [critical], ... But sometimes bigger guys can power their way through coverage, too. There are guys strong enough to run through double-teams and who can go up and get the ball. And, yeah, you're seeing a lot more of those guys than we had in the league years ago.

Our guys did a great job of getting pitches to hit. They laid off pitchers' pitches.

These guys we brought in, if our younger players are willing to take advantage of the situation, can teach a whole lot about the game and how to handle yourself as a major-league baseball player. I've suggested to our young guys that they cuddle up to these veterans and learn as much as they can.

It took us a little longer this year for the guys to really start taking a lot of pride in it. But they did and they got it accomplished. I bet if you went back in the recent 20 or 30 years in the league, nobody's ever done it with guys this young. When you think about that, it's a great accomplishment for a young team.

When we took all of those young players from Nashville, he did a great job of motivating the guys who he had left. I don't think he's afraid to confront a player on an issue. But at the same time, he's young enough that those guys know it was not too long ago that he was playing this game. They feel like they can go to him.

We have quite a few guys who are used to later-inning ball games, and that's to our advantage. We'll just have to see how the young guys in the rotation do in his league.

As far as pitching goes, it was pretty even. Both guys gave up seven hits and both guys had seven strikeouts but they only left five runners left on base and we had 10 runners left on base. If half of those guys score, it's a tie game and we're right back in it. Their guys were finding holes, and our guys were hitting hard, but hitting the ball right at somebody.

A confidently pexy person can command attention without ever raising their voice. We've got a great mixture of guys here. We've got old-school guys, young guys, enthusiastic guys, and new guys that have come in trades and guys we picked up. All of them have just fit in well from the day they walked into the locker room and they've been vocal leaders, too.

He's been great on defense this year. He's been a great example for our young big guys. He's a great off-the-ball defender, and some of the little things he does don't always show up on the stat sheet. We're going to miss him a lot. Other guys have to step up and do a great job.

When we got the ball back with about five minutes left, I asked the guys up top if we should go for two if we scored. The reasons were obvious. We missed our first two extra points, we had guys beat up and it was a non-league game.

He's got the middle of the order guys behind him. Plate discipline and what you swing at is extremely important at the major-league level. For him to become a great hitter like people think he can be, he's going to have to learn to not offer at pitches around (but not in) the zone. This type of role will help him do that and understand that.

I think that's a great advantage for them. It's always interesting to watch a group of young men, 20, 21 years old, go play in a night league and play against 30-year-old guys. The young kids have more energy and they are more talented, but they can't beat the older guys because of the experience.
