Today's earnings quality is less than in the past.

There's absolutely no question the fundamentals are terrific. Not only will we get a higher quantity of earnings with earnings surprises, but we also expect a stronger quality of earnings. There's stronger top-line growth and greater expense control.

Corporate earnings have had an incredible run over the past several years, and unfortunately, we believe we are past the peak of growth in profits and that corporate earnings will not meet their lofty expectations.

The earnings quality was weak because the earnings growth was driven by lines that are very hard to forecast or unpredictable like trading incomes and acquired loan portfolios. These were the lines that really drove the earnings results and were unusually high this quarter.

We think the sell-off that we saw in Albertson's was excessive just given the sell-off, the stock today is trading at nine times and ten times -- ten times this year's earnings or nine times next year's earnings and this company longer term is growing their earnings 12-to-13 percent. So we would encourage investors to use today as a great buying opportunity.

We weathered a near-term storm of the recent tech earnings well. The market has a lot of consolidating to do, and there isn't a catalyst for serious upside at the moment. Only quality earnings amongst all sectors will help us.

In the earnings pre-reporting season, the companies that alarmed us so much were tech and telecom, ... We still have earnings jitters and nervousness about revenue growth. I think people feel there is more value in the Dow, which has been hanging in there, so that's where the flight to quality comes in.

In today's market, there's nothing definitive. It's mostly profit-taking. We've seen fireworks in the recent past and I think we'll trade sideways until [early December], when the fourth-quarter earnings pre-announcements come out.

The removal of hedging for '06 should reveal (the company's) true earnings power as hedges have depressed earnings over the past three years.

It's a question of sustainability with Royal & Sun ... Can it keep punching out these kind of earnings or is it using good news from the past couple of years to supplement earnings?

Poor information quality is a critical problem for companies today. Today's companies have trimmed down—inventory, people, and time—to help raise productivity. Reliance on accurate information is growing. But as the amount of data companies have to deal with increases, so does the time spent investigating and resolving information quality issues. Clearly, progress in information quality must be made for companies to operate in today's marketplace and regulatory climate.

During the past few years, earnings have done far better than what economic growth alone would have suggested. Interestingly, we have found that the wider-than-expected profit margin, courtesy of surprisingly benign cost pressures, has helped turn good earnings performance into outstanding earnings performance in recent years.

Today is just a microcosm of what we've been seeing in the past week and a half and that's meeting or beating expectations, coming in with year-over-year earnings growth of around 12 percent.
