It seems to me that this is a market where fundamental analysis has fallen flat. If you're looking for higher quality companies whose fundamentals are on the mend, you're not catching this market.

You've already seen what the market is betting on. Clearly the market believes a Bush win would be good for the market, but it's much more important to focus on valuations and quality companies.

But this also shows that there aren't sufficient deals in the market and people are placing a higher valuation on companies that they invest in. This is fine as long as the market is growing, as it did last year. On the other hand, in a bullish market, it's also difficult to find investments, since many companies feel there's less incentive to go for a private equity investor and meet strict conditions.

The market is supported by somewhat better fundamentals than might have been seen a few months ago. I think the market is going to try to inch higher.

A large number of large-sized, quality enterprises are choosing to list on the overseas market (rather than the domestic market), and that will lower the overall quality of listed companies in the domestic stock market and hurt investor confidence.

We are still positive on the outlook - the market is taking a breather. All the fundamental drivers are in place for the market to move higher.

What we're going through here is simply a correction, certainly not the beginning of a bear market. Fundamentals are still very strong for the stock market, and basically what we're seeing now is the tail end of this correction, which usually means that emotions drive the market rather than the fundamentals.

I think you're seeing the market raising its estimates on economic growth, but that also may mean higher rates. So we're still digesting what all this means, and the result so far is a flat-to-lower market.

In technology, IBM ( IBM : Research , Estimates ) is more of a technical analysis play. The stock has broken out, or getting very close to breaking out, of a trading range. And I think the market's still going to give a premium to quality companies in technology. IBM being listed doesn't get that Nasdaq appeal, however. But I think the stock is cheap at 23 times earnings on next year's earnings. And their big server market and the other types of technology they have are doing very well in the service sector.
