The State of Montana does not require the reclamation (of the mine itself), but the company has told us they will reclaim this. It's private ground, so any reclamation they would do is between the landowner and the company.

Many of us who work in the private sector, your boss would pretty much tell you to cancel your vacation. The public already has a perception that too many of our state leaders don't feel the rules apply to them. This type of activity does nothing but buttress that perception.

These open houses provide Hoosiers with a chance to receive firsthand information about how the state forests are working to provide diverse wildlife habitat, forest products and recreational opportunities. They also allow us to receive valuable feedback from our neighbors and users about state forest management issues.

More and more, we're partnering with the state to do things the state normally would have funded on a regular basis but now is requiring some private resources. It requires the state to put less money into projects and, in turn, makes it more likely to be supported.

The board members will now weigh all of this and decide. But I can tell you that since the state and the Forest Service and the counties have agreed, I would be very surprised if they were not approved.

The Forest Service appears to be having an internal fire sale, with the heart of our national forests put out for bid on eBay. We may soon see the Weyerhaeuser National Forest patrolled by rent-a-rangers, overseen by private consultants.

Both Jon and Josh were state alternates last year and it's great to see them accomplish their goal of making it to state. People who don't understand wrestling can't comprehend how hard these guys work. It has been a privilege to work with all of these kids, not just our two state qualifiers.

We appreciate the effort the Forest Service put into the report. The safety standards enforced by the U.S. Forest Service do not take into account a high altitude ski area staying open until late May with temperatures remaining above freezing. We support the Forest Service's efforts to strengthen safety standards to take into account the potential for wet slab avalanches.

Jim Gibbons would be happy to work with Dina Titus and the rest of the Legislature to determine if that's the best course of action. Right now, he'll continue to abide by the current state law.
