You always want to give your best on Senior Night. There?s something about it being your last night. We just wanted to make it as special as possible and I?m glad we did.

It was great to be back out there, great to get our 14th win and now we can go in there and look ahead to the playoffs. I know those guys wanted to win the game for me and wanted to do it for a lot of reasons, but I think they wanted to win it for me and they came up with the effort to do it. It was special.

Our special teams have been playing very well and they've given us tremendous effort. I wanted to reward someone, acknowledge someone who exemplified the effort that we look for in a special team - and that's what Zach has done.

What I wanted from them is what I got. I wanted the effort to win and if you give the effort, that?s all you can do. No one expected a team that?s 9-11 to come out and beat a team that?s 19-1. Nobody. If we could have done just a little bit better job in execution and had some more continuity on the offensive end, I thought we could have played with them.

We wanted to make something special for Travis, him being the lone senior and everything, and this is his day. We just wanted to come out and give it all we had. The effort was there definitely and it's a step in the right direction. We didn't get the result we wanted. But if we come out and work that hard every night we'll give ourselves a chance to win.

I honestly thought about it (not playing) last night and all day today, but I didn't want to leave my team hanging like that. I just wanted to give some kind of effort, to let them know I'm still with them.

To know that No. 31 will be hanging from the rafters ... it'll be a special night.

I knew I wanted to get Ronnie right away. I felt Ronnie would be one of the quick learners, and we're all happy he's on the all-star team.

We wanted them to be something special for this anniversary and we thought about how it would be to give everyone a high five for their efforts. We talked about what we wanted and then I took the idea to Jay Soule, a commercial artist in Victoria, and he had something worked up for me in about a half hour.

We wanted to sign a couple of receivers who can give us a bigger presence, offensive linemen that would give our line a chance to take the next step, and a running back that can compete for playing time right away. Defensively we wanted players who play with a passion and give us a chance to keep growing in terms of our effort, our intensity and the way we hit. The players we signed certainly fit into these categories.

I think one of the main reasons they were so successful in raising funds was there were pretty bold visions of what they wanted that facility to be. They wanted it more than just for state staff. They wanted it to be a learning tool and to be great for education ... (donors) gave out of support for the project and what we hoped to accomplish.

It's not an excuse but it's a reason. I thought our kids gave a great effort. Our game plan, we did exactly what we wanted to do. We relied on our defense and our special teams. We wanted to make sure our offense didn't turn the ball over. We just didn't execute when it came time.
