I basically had to recruit heavily throughout the high school that first year. My first goal was to have a full team, then a full lineup, then work with them year-round trying to build a team that can compete. High school softball belongs on the high school campus. The senior high students are already here.

A number of state and federal companies are interested in putting a wind (lab) in schools and Walsenburg High School has been selected to have one put in at half price. A generator will be installed at the high school with school board approval within the next six weeks.

The school board meets on the third Wednesday in May to approve the hire. We should make an announcement then.

I think our school board needs to be more involved with parents. When parents are closer to the school board, that's how we get the good publicity that we really want to get.

We are adding parking and a signal at the south entrance of the campus, but as we've seen with the new Kenilworth Junior High School, increased traffic will have an impact. Fortunately, unlike Kenilworth students, our students will not all be arriving and departing at the same time. And we'll be encouraging everyone to take mass transit and carpool.
